I've been testing this software for a couple of days now and I find it realy interesting.
The main problem is the black box, as one of you said.. you just need to push some buttons and everything goes automatically, without the possability to check accuracy, std, ...
The modelling looks realy good, in 5 minutes I got my model (planes and pipes) thru a scan of about 5 million points in total (demo version). The problem is, you can't adjust any of the fitted planes and there is no undo button.
The selection tools doesn't work properly and offcourse, I can't see how good the exported models are..

But either way, as we are a researchgroup, we're buying this software this week, because we've never seen such a well automated program as this before;
Any of you?

Lieselot,

How did you get on with this software?

Have there been more improvements since your purchase?

How have you found there support network?

Have you tested the accuracy?

Cheers,

Dear All,

We have tested this software six months back and noticed some points as listed in below

we have tested in pipe transportation project as there will be lot of pipe modeling work. we got some interesting results.
Pipes are created in a random way and there is no undo option
It creates a single pipe from start to end and it will not consider any bends. It will not identify the flanges and valves.
All elbows are created at 1.5 bend ratio. (We need to re model them in clear edge or in cyclone)
Most importantly, we had problems with insulated pipes. It will model them to the standard pipe values (We usually model them to the OD in other modeling software's)

We have listed all these problems to Clear Edge people and they said it will be resolved in next version.
We do not have steel and topo extraction when we test this software. I hope these things are resolved in this current version.

I think Matt can have the better knowledge now as he had the demo version... :)

Thanks
Kevin

Guys,

Thank you for keeping up with what we are doing at ClearEdge3D. Since last year’s release of EdgeWise Plant 2.0 (EWP), we've gotten great feedback from our users and have implemented most of the features they’ve asked for. We'll be releasing our 3rd generation of EWP in a few weeks and we would love feedback from this community.

Some of the major new features include:

- 64-Bit; multi-core processing
- QA tools to quickly validate the accuracy and fit of every single pipe
- Improved algorithms that extract significantly more pipes automatically, with very few false positives
- Fast new automated and semi-automated finishing tools to capture and edit full pipe runs
- Simple resizing tools to handle different standards, refit to the point cloud, and handle insulated pipe correctly
- SmartSheet technology to capture key pipe intelligence that carries over to CAD
- Export pipes to layers or levels in AutoCAD, Microstation, or Cyclone
- And of course, an undo button!

If you are interested, we’d love to host a private demo of our beta version for Laser Scanning Forum members to get feedback on the new features. We want to make this next release as applicable as possible to your projects, so comments and ideas from this group would be invaluable. I’ll contact Jason Warren to try and arrange it.

If it really does what it seems to be doing than i must admit it is brilliant! It would speed up modelling of plant environment a lot. Serious testing would have to be undertaken and some comparisons to already modelled areas in Cyclone, but i guess it is a massive step forward. Keep up the good work guys.

Just had a look at the website and there is no option for a trial version, only a live demo?

I would want to test the software myself, otherwise I have no way of knowing it it will do what is says.

They also price it on a scan by scan basis, rather than owning the software outright...which can make it quite expensive!

We tried just recently testing the ClearEdge software by sending them a Wellhead tower platform of 80 scans which had been previously already modeled by our team. See the results below- there is alot of missing pipes and just floating in the air also the Co-ordinates of the whole model was moved. I agree it has good potential but it is still a long way behind for production. I found out also that it took 3 hours to achieve the below model but the software cannot handle good structural items.

Thanks,

Enda
