You basically set up a view of the model and then simulate a scanner position. You can scan the model from various angles and register the scans after.

The above image is a scan I did as a sample fro one of our clients. I just created a model of their logo and scanned it with the simulator.
Really!? We will renew our license in a few weeks, I can't wait to try that.

Do I need to purchase a special module for that or is it a standard function? I never heard of that before.

Thanks so much,

I think it is standard, but you'd miss it if you weren't looking

Tools -> Scanner -> Create Simulated Scanner

gives you a pop-up which looks pretty much like a normal scanner UI, where you can set some settings and run the scan. Good luck!

The UI for the simulator is basically the same as it was for the early 2400 and 2500 scanners.

The results are usually very good and the speed is not an issue if you set up the simulated scanner quite close to the model and probe the distance etc.

With a bit of practice its quite easy to use.

The virtual scanner in cyclone has never been updated after the HDS2500. Even though it Is still a great teaching tool. I once had 50 students all scanning the same object in a lecture teching the principles of scanning. Back in those early days scanners wer very expensive an thin on the ground so a simulator was an essential teaching tool.

My apologies to Leica, they do manufacture great equipment, but crumbs do we pay for the R&D. Try buying a scanner here in South Africa with our exchange rates. Sorry Steve just saw the gap for a moment there!

Back to the subject of the simulator. I have modeled some bridges and have used the interpolation of surfaces to fill in some shadow areas where we could not physically scan. I want to play with the data and try to mesh the entire structure to compare results and work flows. Could i use the simulator to create cloud data in these shadow areas so that I can create a cloud without any gaps?
