Yes they said is for gas production facilities, so I will try to offering solution using hot work permit.TommyMaddox wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 5:05 pmHot work permits and/or fire eye bypass where applicable has been sufficient for us across 1100 oil and gas sites in the last 6 years.Yudhistira wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 3:46 am Thank you for the Input,
i would like to ask, regarding our client requirement, is to use Explosive proof Equipment, or should have explosive proof certified , due to the explosive prone zone in oil refinery and gas refinery.
any input on this? or can we have a solution/ mitigation for this?
maybe using a hot work permit?
If it's an explosive environment, you shouldn't be in there either, and generally scanning work is not so critical that the working environment cannot be made safe for a reasonable duration of time.
Except for scanning fuel tanks/fuel bunkers/other very odd situations.

Re: Which scanner for Oil & gas As-Built - price concern
The price will make you cry (I believe these were about half a million new and roughly 20 made), and it's a scanner based on the 2006 model with the speed and quality to match (Peyman feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here). The only reason to use one is if there is no other possible way to make the environment safe enough to perform laser scans with a modern unit.
For us (we do oil and gas plants/refineries/etc.. every day) 15 minutes of paperwork and a chat and walk-down with the operator is fine. It may take an hour at a huge refinery if the operator is busy with other permits or staff on a turnaround or shutdown, but that's still paid.
Like I said before, if the environment is known to be explosive or have an environment of 10%/20% of LEL or greater, generally personnel won't be allowed in that environment anyways.

Actually the price for a new one is about US$ 185k. The range is 79m and the speed is 500,000 PPS which is decent enough.TommyMaddox wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 5:29 pm The price will make you cry (I believe these were about half a million new and roughly 20 made), and it's a scanner based on the 2006 model with the speed and quality to match (Peyman feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here). Re: Which scanner for Oil & gas As-Built - price concern
I stand corrected, are they still making these units?
185K USD does buy you like ~4 new FARO S premium units + software/totalstation, so if doing a little paperwork is sufficient, I'd still recommend that approach.
Understanding of course that some edge cases like certain offshore projects, or fuel tank scans, maybe scans in bulk powder storage or rocket fuel plants etc... may be unable to accommodate.

Hi,
We used 5006EX ones on the oil tanker. Wights around 30kg, so you need two persons to operate it. Comes with a large special tripod, batteries from the unit we rented, lasted for 5-6 scans, and in the ex environment the charger is quite far from the place where you perform the scanning it was a really nice workout
