Link different scan stages with different content
Hello, I'm Biloba and new to this forum. I work in archeology and will soon be able to do laser scans with the Trimble X7. I've done a few laser scans before, but this was many years ago and the laser scanner and software were different. I haven't had to mesh yet either. The processing is carried out with the RealWorks software. The area to be scanned is an exposed basement. These are to be scanned at various stages of exposure. During processing, it will therefore be necessary to remove areas in order to make room for later uncovered areas, which will then also be scanned. In the end, a whole mesh should be created, which can be used as a basis for 3D printing. It is clear to me that the mesh can probably not be printed directly because it is not a closed mesh and the basement rooms dig into the environment. But is it possible to end up with a single mesh by cutting and connecting? I would be very happy about an answer.

Dear Eva,
I hope I got this right: you're scanning to scan a basement according to the Harris' matrix. Then I'm geting confused:
In general, regardless which software you use, cutting faces of triangles and "closing" holes are standard features. So, that'll be a yes.
Do you want to create a mesh that contains all exposed stages in one file?
All the best
Daniel

Re: Link different scan stages with different content
Hi Daniel,
thank you very much for your quick answer. The aim is not to extract a Harris matrix, but to cut the desired content from several scans of the basement rooms, which are made at different times, i.e. have different contents (walls, etc.), to create a self-selected overall situation. In the end, a single contiguous mesh should remain. I hope you can understand what I want to say. I'm from Germany and I had my sentences translated by Google translator. I hope it makes sense.
Kind regards, Biloba
