Deleting scan point clouds
When deleting scan point clouds is there a way to delete them from the drive without performing the clean up? With the added storage needed for the scan point clouds on a large project the empty space require to perform the clean up is not always present.

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
Go to your project files -> Revisions -> 1(for example) -> _3Scans -> Delete everything inside that folder.

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
Thank you,
I have probably asked this here before.
The next question might be harder to answer. Is there any logical answer why Scene would not delete these when deleting the scan point clouds?

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
Scene is doing revisions. It would be dumb to delete the point clouds if you want to be able to jump back to an earlier revision.

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
That does make sense.
But then why wouldn't Scene delete these first in the clean up process which would greatly reduce the disk space required to complete the process?

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
Because what happens if the clean-up fails or gets aborted? The files would be lost forever.
So, first, create a new revision, then delete the old stuff.
And disk space is relatively cheap, lost work not so much.

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
I must disagree. If one of the revisions made is deleting the scan or project point clouds then losing them permanently even if the revision fails would not be a loss. On the other hand most of the time a clean up fails it is due to lack of dick space. It should not be too hard for Scene to determine if a point cloud deletion occurred and perform the function of removing the scans from the drive before continuing on with the clean up. If deletion of the point clouds were not in a revision then they would not be deleted.

Re: Deleting scan point clouds
Tell that the FARO SCENE engineers : D
But still, just filter in the explorer for the pointclouds and delete them by hand if you really need to.
Or export the project to another disk with enough free space. The export is basically a cleanup.

Faro engineers should just add the option to clean the whole project and just keep the .fls files so you can remake the scan point clouds without much hassle.WWilford wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 7:08 pm I must disagree. In the classic interface (maybe in "modern" interface" also, I don't use it)":K.Ronald wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 11:30 amFaro engineers should just add the option to clean the whole project and just keep the .fls files so you can remake the scan point clouds without much hassle.WWilford wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 7:08 pm I must disagree. right click cluster (including top level cluster, Scans by default, > operations > pointcloud > Delete point clouds
will delete the most recent scan point cloud for all scans
alternatively, in windows file explorer, do a search for all of the *.FPC (Scan point clouds) and then just delete them from the search window, will get all in the project. (Try that on "test/dummy project" to understand what is happening.)
As with all advice, try on a backup / temp/ trash project.
