Hi
I would like to know if this approach it's correct or not
I need to survey a building and my idea is to make the "principal" scan with the level option active but for the rest of the scans I would like to deactivate the self level (to save time )
thx
Francesco

I have no idea what happens in the Trimble software, if you do this but:Gemmlab wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:28 am Hi

In my opinion it would be a bad idea, since the drift introduced by deactivating the inclinometer (hope it is one), will spread over the project -> This means you can end up with a U shape.
Your main scan will be leveled, but depending on the length of the building and the scans in between the results might be funky. Not bad bad, but not good, it's a gamble.

Re: X7 scan without leveling ?
I am curious how long is the self leveling on the X7? How much time would you save per scans?
As was stated no I would never turn off leveling (exept for tilted scans that shoots your scan out of the 5 degree limit). Anything that can help with accuracy stays on in my book. Bid your jobs accordingly, if you need to go faster get 2 scanners going.

Re: X7 scan without leveling ?
I haven't even tried turning off self-leveling, but if you want to save time, use the "room scan" option. Upgrade Perspective first, then activate it in settings. 1 minute/ setup.
https://help.trimblegeospatial.com/Pers ... /2.1.3.htm
"Scan mode: New indoor scan mode allows for faster project completion by reducing the time for individual station scans. Turning this mode on in the settings will allow you to select a one-minute scan time."
https://help.trimblegeospatial.com/Pers ... /2.0.1.htm
"Unlock leveling: A new setting allows you to unlock the leveling of scans during the registration refinement process. In many cases this can improve the results of the registration by accounting for small variations in the leveling compensation. However, this feature is not recommended for long linear projects."

Re: X7 scan without leveling ?
Of course getting through a site faster is always nice but it all depends on the number of scans on a project.
If you have let's say a 50 scan project, are you going to have more difficulties later by registering it to save time on site. Let's say it takes 1 minute plus per scan to self level, that's 50 minutes on a project where you are for 2 hours. Does this make a difference? Maybe but if you have hassles in the office to register and loose 2 hours to figure it out, you'd better sticked to the self leveling scheme.
If you have a 800 scan project and want to do this, it means you miscalculated your proposal because you know exact times per scan of your gear.
All scanning times are known with their specs so you cant' say you didn't know.
I can scan at 20 seconds with the Riegl and let's say add 15 seconds to move around and start the scan, i know i can do about a hundred scans per hour with these setting, take 15% less to have a margin and i have 85 an hour. If i scan 8 hours i can do 680 with these setting. I therefore calculate proposals with this in mind. If i have to scan at 45 seconds because of detail, i calculate this.....
