nanoCAD 21 | Tools to work with point clouds
Improvements of import and export:
o Import and export of clouds of E57 and ReCAP (*.rcs) format have been added;
o Import got a new improved algorithm for importing cropped areas;
o Possibility to import into a drawing (including by dragging and dropping into the drawing field) of the own nanoCAD format of point clouds (*.npc);
o The import dialogue can set drawing measurement units;
o Support of point clouds when exporting to 3D-PDF format has been implemented.
Cloud clipping commands
o Commands for clipping a cloud by sphere and cylinder have been added;
o Clipping commands interface has been improved;
o A command has been added to invert a point cloud clipping has appeared. A possibility to invert clipping inside/outside directly when the clipping command works through choosing the option.
3D snaps to recognized geometry
There are three-dimensional snaps to earlier recognized geometry in a point cloud. The following snaps are available:
o Point Cloud Edge Node;
o Point Cloud Edge Nearest;
o Point Cloud Edge Perpendicular;
o Point Cloud Plane Nearest;
o Point Cloud Plane Perpendicular;
o Point Cloud Feature Surface;
o Point Cloud Feature Axe Node;
o Point Cloud Feature Axe;
o Point Cloud Feature Center.

Hi Jason,
Do you have any experience of using NanoCAD? These new features look intriguing but would be keen to hear from someone with some experience of using it compared to say SolidWorks or Inventer.
I have looked at their website and see that it is at a very reasonable price to have a CAD system to be able to create some simple designs.
I see that it has originated from Russia, now I'm not a conspiracy theorists, but I am a little weary on where my data might go.

I'm trailing it. Very good priced, also with a network license it cannot be beaten.
I still have to test the pointcloud stuff but for a license on the go while surveying in the field it seems a good deal.

How does the software stand up to producing reliable, industry acceptable 3D as-built models and 2D outputs?

Downloaded and testing at the moment so cant really say. Will have a better idea in the New Year. Certainly one to try out or at least keep an eye on.

Re: nanoCAD 21 | Tools to work with point clouds
I downloaded a trial version of Nanocad to check out the advertised point cloud snapping tools (snap to plane, edge, cylinder, sphere,..) but it seems that the trial version does not have them, only snapping to single points in the cloud.
Obviously I would need an additional module "nanoCAD 3DScan" but I cannot find it anywhere on the website.
Jason, can you tell where to get it.

Sorry my mistake...
I`m not sure what's happening with it at the moment as it appears nanoCAD 3DScan 2.0 was released on 3rd February 2021 as detailed here... pdf link: I cant find a download link on the official nanoCAD web site but there is a download form on the US site here:
http://nanocad.us/download.php?p=nanoCAD-3DScan

Re: nanoCAD 21 | Tools to work with point clouds
nanoCAD 21 has internal functionality for working with 3D elements produced in ReClouds. (The old name '3DScan')
I'm testing it right now.
It has different philosophy of point cloud processing instead of very known and popular software!
ReClouds can produce patches, cylinders, cones, elbows in fully automatic mode.

Re: nanoCAD 21 | Tools to work with point clouds
Just a quick update, I`ve been using nanoCAD 23 for a while now on small projects and very pleased with it. I haven't tested nanoCAD 24 yet or the new point cloud processing platform ReClouds https://reclouds.ru/, hopefully soon.
