Hi guys
Haven't post for while, thought I'd share a tip for Faro Scene that I discovered.
Scene used to drive me crazy with the amount of times it crashed. Now it hardly ever crashes, in fact I can't remember the last time it did.
All I do is regularly "unload all scans and pictures". This chucks a large amount of data out of RAM. The scans normally get loaded into RAM when you Quick view a scan.
I used to get lots of crashes when I saved after deleting points. If I unload all scans it never crashes.
I got in the habit of doing this regularly and now I have no problems.
Regards, Andrew

That is indeed true. Always unload all scans when doing steps in Scen. Also when preprocessing create a "scan point cloud" while you're at it.

To add to this, one thing that has occasionally caused Scene to crash for me is deleting a cluster while its correspondence view is still open.
I frequently re-organize clusters to achieve better cloud-to-cloud results, and I use the correspondence view to decide which scans to move into new clusters.
So, another way to prevent crashes is to always close the views of a cluster before you delete it.

Don't trust this. Trust me it doesnt work, scene will crash even with all scans unloaded and view closed when deleting clusters
Best and safest way to delete a cluster is to save before. I usually keep a "delete cluster"where I drop all the clusters I want to delete into and delete it after a save.

For what it's worth, this does work for me. Perhaps the difference is in our Scene versions or specific hardware.

Where do you go to 'all scans and pictures all I can seem to find is how to unload each scan individually?fobos8 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 11:10 am Hi guys
