Given that this has just been released this week it would suggest that a new Imager system would not be released anytime soon. I wouldn't expect a new system for a couple of years at least given the previous time scales between releases.
The 5016 Imager is still one of the best in the market with on-site registration and incredible noise range accuracy. What would you be hoping for out of a new system, have you got certain functionality in mind?

Yes I have seen that scanner and this is what made me think that there might be a new "Imager" coming out.
The only functionnality in mind that I see would be a faster camera for taking pictures or to offer an option to be able to use it with a Ricoh Theta Z placed on the top of it like you can see on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms4PCMpoCEs

I know this would mess around with the parrallaxe, mainly the Z axe, but for some project it would be good enough for the time saving.

One more question
I see that the tilt of the scanner Z+F is 0.004° (which is 15'') and the tilt of the TX8 is 1''.
I usually use control point to have an independant check on my pointcloud to make sure I do not have a project that looks great and that in reallity it is set like the pisa tower, working with the TX8 I have never had any bad experience.
Have you had any bad experiences with the tilt of the Z+F ? (not that it forces me to put plenty of targets on the field which would make me loose time)

I had the first 5016 in North America and did lots of jobs with it and some of them in a very harsh areas. Never had a problem with tilt.

I have never had any issues with the tilt of the scans from the Z+F, it is less accurate than the Trimble TX8 but has a much larger range to which it can compensate to. Just like most things in laser scanning, the stats can be applied in many ways to highlight potential error but in practice if you use good methodology and a well maintained instrument there should be no issues.

also you need a software which makes use of the compensator data, many don't...
the TX8 is indeed very strong with compensation and you don't need that many Control Points along long Buldings.
The Z+F is also very very Strong with Compensation and for me the best Laserscanner on the market.
In fact the 5016 is still after 5 years far ahead to all other Scanners on the Market so there is no need to release a new one.

We trialled it when it was relatively new, was very impressed with it on a technical level but it was just too slow to be a viable upgrade compared to the competition. It still has the speed of scanners from 10 years ago. There are the RTC360 and Trimble X7 scanners which are both considerably faster, have great imagery and crisp, clean data, and I believe are cheaper. The auto registration I think is quicker and more reliable too, but maybe the software has improved in the past few years.
We used a 5016 last year on a project using a client's own scanner and were getting less than 20 scans per day. Around 15 minutes per position. If we had been using one of our RTC360's for the same job and same deliverable we'd have done the job in 1 week instead of 3.
Very interested to know your experience, and how it differs from mine.

Don't know the speeds but comparing an X7 with a z&f is like comparing a lada with an mercedes.
