Hey everyone,
in case you missed it, CapturingReality has ended their promotion phase for their software RealityCapture, which used to cost 99 € for 3 months.
It has been replaced with "fantastic" options:
PGM license for 249€ per month (a increase of over 700% in price).
PPI Pay-Per-Input: 0,0025€ per megapixel. So a single project with 1000 20Mpx images will cost 50€.
There is quite the uproar in the community. Especially freelancers/ small studios will be looking for alternatives real soon.
Quite a shame, it really was quite a good piece of software.
Cheers.

Agisoft or RC? I always considered Agisoft's pricing and licensing model to be quite sensible, RC's on the otherhand...

Well caught.
I was going to write that Reality Capture pricing structure was pants.
Agisoft is pretty straightforward. And by comparison is a steal...only if they had became more fashionable....

Re: RealityCapture - Every PROMOtion has its end
Reality Capture's promo at 99/3months was extremely cheap, and it's reasonable that they decided to increase the price.
The new licensing options are not so bad.
If you need only a 3d model or pointcloud Agisoft's Standard is a great option and very cheap.
In case of GCP and orthophotos the monthly fee of Pix4D is similar to the new pricing for reality capture's monthly rental.
For a single one off project PPI sounds really good, considering also that you can do all the registration work before paying (sometime Reality Capture shows some limits..)

Re: RealityCapture - Every PROMOtion has its end
It's true that RealityCapture was pretty cheap, though that version did have its annoying limitations: 2500 images max., no commandline interface, internet connection required to export models etc. And the UI is one of the worst experiences I've had so far. The quality and speed definitely balanced those aspects out...
But increasing the price more than 700% is quite a ballsy move. Because of the shitstorm that followed, they just announced yesterday that they will reconsider their pricing. We'll see what will happen.
Cheers!

Re: RealityCapture - Every PROMOtion has its end
If you want Command Line, then you only have it as a service which costs you 7500Euros per year (625 Euros per month)
Or you can go with the credit based approach, each BLK360 scan will cost you about 4.3 euros per station. RTC360 about 8 Euros per scan position.
If you don't care about Command Line, then you can buy the enterprise edition, for 15.000 Euros, and a 3250 maintenance fee per year.
You could buy 4 Agisoft Metashape licenses for that, which include command line support, and no maintenance fee.
You could buy 3 Zephyr licenses also.
I have used those and others, and RC is the nicest of the 3. but it has no USP that justifies the price.
IMHO they have priced themselves into oblivion...Realviz anyone?
