Leica RTC360 vs Faro Focus S150

Which would you chose to use for indoor scanning for building / MEP as-builts for CAD/Revit work, and for what reasons?

Twice the price? The quotes I have on hand have the RTC360 about $10K more than the S150, about 15%. Is the premium worth it? I look forward to the discussion.

Hard one, Used both and own X330 they both have big differences

Dual axis vs IMU
Speed
File sizes

Scene vs Reg 360

We personally went with faro for price and software but if we were to go buy survey grade most definitely P series Leica

Currently own S70 and had a demonstration on RTC. The Leica is king on the field, lightning fast scan times, light enough unit and can use android tablets for onsite registration which was also impressive.

The only killer that caused us to sway for Faro was the sheer file sizes the Leica produces.

Costwise they are about even.
Size too.
Software, takes a couple hours to be capable, a few days to be confident, regardless of package.
Dealing with data, well you develop strategies.
Both use the same tripods.

The differentiating factors:
Do you need your scans to be level? Then it's the Faro.
Do you do mostly interiors with C2C? Then the RTC will make registration very simple.
Do you need full resolution at full range? Then you need the Faro, the RTC has a 60m range at full res.
Do you own scene or cyclone already?then you can already use the Faro files on either. For RTC360 you might need an update to Cyclone, the RTC will still workout cheaper this way, but not by much, but no option to use RTC360 files on anything but Leica software.
How far away are the reps from your area? Being close to support can come in handy.

You obviously trialed it with the old FW... what a shame.

Do a back to back test... that's all there really is to say.

You will soon find out which offers you best value for money and the most comprehensive workflow.

Always judge the complete package based on the ease of use from field to finish.

Also, take note of support, updates and service turn-around times.

I'd be interested in a demo of the Focus S150. If there is a rep who can demo in Exeter, please send me a PM.

One of my biggest concerns with the RTC360 is the file size. I'm hearing that time saved in the field with the quick scanning is lost during the handling of the scans back at the office. Has the new firmware done enough to fix this?
