Historic Environment Scotland are recruiting for a full time, permanent position on our team. The role revolves around 3D data processing (mainly laser scanning and photogrammetry), data management, but there will be opportunities to join for fieldwork to undertake survey/data capture - and experience in this area will be valued.

We are currently hybrid working, which allows some flexibility to the home & office work pattern, though please note it is not advertised as a fully-remote position and physical presence will be essential at times based on job requirement, such as key office tasks that cannot be undertaken remotely, on-site fieldwork across Scotland, events, training, etc.

Key responsibilities, duties and objectives
This is a focused and specialised technical role, undertaking 3D data processing and data
management of complex datasets, contributing to the successful delivery of strategic
organisational priorities. Key responsibilities and duties will include:
• Digital documentation data processing on a diverse range of large and complex
projects using specialised 3D software.
• Undertaking quality assurance of your own work and that of others within the team.
• Migration of older Leica Cyclone databases to new versions and archival formats to
ensure safeguarding of digital data for the future.
• Data post-processing, including conversion of point clouds to Potree format.
• Metadata completion for digital documentation projects.
• Establishment and management of tracking databases.
• File management of a diverse range of digital documentation datasets on dedicated
server.
• Processing 3D data access requests.
• Undertaking critical backup to magnetic tape medium.
• Assisting digital documentation fieldwork.

Essential requirements:
• Suitable relevant experience in a professional working environment, delivering projects
to strict deadlines.
• Substantial demonstrable experience in use of Leica Cyclone registration software to
complete and deliver large and complex digital documentation projects to a high and
reproducible standard.
• Demonstrable experience in use of other specialist 3D software packages, for example
Reality Capture, Potree, 3D Reshaper, Polyworks, Leica Infinity, Autodesk ReCap,
Faro Scene, Z+F Laser Control, Cloud Compare, Artec Studio, Blender, 3D Studio
Max.
• Experience and good working knowledge of terrestrial laser scanning, total station
survey, GNSS recording and photogrammetry.
• Fieldwork and on-site survey experience.
• Demonstrable experience of metadata recording and awareness of database archiving
requirements.
• Demonstrable experience in data and file management for large projects.
• Experience and confidence in learning cloud-based IT systems.
• Experience and good working knowledge of data backup principles & processes.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Excel in particular.
• Strong communication skills and team working.
• Attention to detail and quality.
• Show initiative and a desire to innovate.
• Full UK driving license.

Desirable requirements:
• An interest in the historic environment and its conservation.
• Programming experience to support scripting in post-processing.
• UAV licence (GVC or PfCO)
