Re: Faro EXTERNAL CAM - First Impressions and Screenshots
Is it possible to turn off raw file saving from Theta? It's big file, and since dynamic range from jpg is excellent, it would be cool if we can turn off dng saving. It would reduce file size and saving time. Just add simple option to save or not raw file from Theta
Can someone from faro comment on this?

Re: Faro EXTERNAL CAM - First Impressions and Screenshots
Hi Nino,
this is currently not possible. We are using the raw dng files for colorization because they show better results compared to using the stitched images from the Theta itself. The reason is that the stitching of the Theta does not know about the 3D information of the point cloud. This is something that we exploit in our colorization algorithm.
Regards,
Daniel

Re: Faro EXTERNAL CAM - First Impressions and Screenshots
Oh, I thought that dng was same as jpg, but with metadata for better extraction of shadows/highlights, exposure, ...
Thanks for explanation.

Question for panocam users
Is it nessasery to calibate panocam before every project, or is it enough once in sutable environment (Faro says: The calibration scan should be done in an indoor environment (office, room, etc.), walls should have a distance of a few meters to the scanner, there must be visible objects / patterns well distributed around the floor, walls, and ceiling to receive an optimal calibration, avoid plain white walls, dark environments, and moving objects).
My local Faro dealer says that there is no need for calibration before each new project
Also, I found that if I apply color first in Scene (before any kind of processing), color overlay is slightly sharper.

I try to run it every time but I don't always process it. I've only had issues once but I wished I had of ran it on the scanner when I did.

Your scan looks really awesome. Panocam is definitely a time saver.ProCro wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 12:11 pm

Less than 2hrs to scan what you see here...
The adaptors are the same. Ours is black too. The one in the photo was loaned to us from Faro but there is no difference in functionality.

Re: Faro EXTERNAL CAM - First Impressions and Screenshots
Hi everyone,
Few weeks ago I did a project with over 100 scans with PanoCam. I had problems in Scene to colorize the scans so I skipped this step for the registration purposes and continued my work. But now I need to extract the images for the customer but I cannot find the way to access it. I am sure that the images are stored somewhere in .fls files because they are extraordinary big.
Do you know how can I extract them? Unfortunately SD card is already formatted so I can't find it there...
I attach a sample scan from my project maybe someone could help me out: https://we.tl/t-YLMWJGqnzn

Re: Faro EXTERNAL CAM - First Impressions and Screenshots
Hi bananmac,
I know two easy ways. Either use `7zip` or some similar software to extract the panos from the raw data. Or use the function build into SCENE.
Kind regards
Raimund Klink
