Re: Point Cloud to Plane Comparison and Export
Hi Massimo,
Thank you for this but I have already managed to use CC to get the results. My question was whether this was possible to do specifically in Infinity and/or Cyclone 3DR and if so, exactly the steps for how to go about doing so

Perhaps you should ask in the 3DR section if you are looking for help with a specific package.
Asking in "Request Help with Projects" will assume that the answers are how other people would suggest going about something the way that they are usually experienced in solving similar problems.

Amron
For this sort of thing once i have the values, i normally go to orthoimagery and just import that into Autocad and add a titleblock and scale (distorion scale). Not sure how to get an ortho image out of 3DR or infinty, never tried. My workflow is
1.Send the cloud from cyclone to cc,
2.analyse, burn compare colours to cloud as RGB
3. Send back to cyclone
4. Export orthoimages from cyclone
5. Import orthos to autocad
6. Titleblock scale print send
Maybe this workflow might help find a direction for yours
Cheers

I would like some advice on the best piece of software to use to accomplish this particular task. I have a single scan of a building wall and am looking to (1) generate a reference plane on said wall (2) compare the differences in distance between the two objects (3) export these values in something like an ASCII file for further statistical analysis
In summary, if anyone can give me advice on whether the full workflow is possible in Infinity and further guidance on how to accomplish it using 3DR, that would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Hi.
Infinity won't do what you are looking for... it was just not designed to have that in-depth of features. It's meant to produce an nice and simple result.
With 3DR is a totally different scenario. There are a few ways of achieving what you are asking, some more sophisticated than others.
I have to ask first, however... when you say "further statistical analysis", what is it that you trying to compute specifically, If I may ask?

Thanks all for referencing me.
While we wait for additional information on this, I've prepared , what I think, it's the simplest way to achieve what's been asked. As I've said, 3DR offers a lot more sophisticated workflows...
