Interesting.
Are there scan samples with no pictures/colors? In many cases I scan in poor light conditions and taking photos is impossible.

Neither the NavVis M6 nor the NavVis VLX has additional lighting that I am aware of providing. As I have suggested many times on the LSF, you need to have a Z+F sensor (either 5010X+Smart light or 5016 with the built in internal LED lighting) or to add lighting as was done in this LSF thread

https://www.laserscanningforum.com/foru ... 0&start=20

to be able to capture color scans in total darkness as shown below. We used a Z+F 5016 in total darkness to capture daylight condition colored point clouds and color image panoramas.

You don't necessarily have to take panos with the VLX, if you are fine with a cloud with intensity values.
I will try to get you a sample!

BTW Dennis, super interesting results on the meshing :)

Thanks,
I'd love to have a small sample.

Decided to try and load a NavVis VLX file on to a game platform. The largest VLX file that I currently have is from the scans from Marek Koltun of NYC.

SOHOVLX, E57=11.2GB, 444,845,248 pts.

I still need to figure out how everything works.

Hi Dennis - this looks very interesting! I assume this is Unreal game engine? Are the screen shots still point cloud OR game engine converts it into mesh? Colors and quality look slightly off from what our cloud looks like.

Hi Dennis,

At a glance, it looks like the pixel size is set too high in your viewer which gives the impression of a lower resolution / blurry result. You often see the same effect in potree, where the default values are setup for a wider point spacing than used in modern terrestrial scanning. The size usually scales with perspective, so points or splats nearer the viewer are larger to give the impression of continuous surfaces rather than discrete points but often needs some adjusting to suit data density.

I believe you are correct about the size and positioning, but there is still too much to figure out, and not enough time.

I am disappointed with American Airlines Cargo (that is saying it gracefully) since they have been sitting on my NavVis VLX since June 19 when it was picked up in Munich, DE. If anyone is shipping anything from MUC to FRA, I suggest not using AACargo. It still has not left MUC yet.

That's bloody frustrating Dennis. You could be playing around with it when delicered on time.

Lieven

It did leave MUC yesterday, and is stuck in FRA until Wednesday, July 1 leaving for DFW. It will arrive in HNL, July 2 at 2:21P HST if I am lucky.
