Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
Hello Jason,
this tutorial covers how ground control points are captured (both wall and ground). The QR code like tags have been used for testing of a different project
youtu.be/PfGCcIhNP6g
The NavVis IndoorViewer instance you embedded is recorded with M6.
The instance recorded with VLX is below, which by the way shows the same scans available for download on the VLX website.

Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
There are actually two more webinars coming:
1) Since with corona we cannot visit every customer we will do a live mapping demo in our office (fingers crossed that we will work this out)
Since I will do this webinar together with one of my team leads HW this is also a good opportunity to ask in depth questions
You can register here: https://hubs.ly/H0qFRj70
2) We were asked to join the panel discussion with Leica BLK2Go and GeoSLAM hosted by Spar 3D: https://www.spar3d.com/resources/webina ... evolution/
So overall a pack of three webinars within 2 weeks

Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
I may have missed it from the VLX literature:
How is moving through typical door and passageways handled? Does one need to be 5'-2" (157.5 cm) tall to breeze through without doing the Limbo? I do see a hinged assembly...just curious!

Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
Good article Georg. This Vlx appears more to me then the M6. Clean sites with no obstacles on the floor are non-existent for me. Also staircases of say 9 floors seem very difficult to do with the M6.GeorgSchroth wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 6:09 pm Agreed

Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
Hey Scott,
take a look at the video how to map with VLX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O03UHEKKrcc
From 2:20 we demonstrate two possibilities how to handle it in low ceiling environments. Your leg muscles will be grateful for some squats I'm sure but if you're not really into it, thanks to our SLAM you can tilt the device while it's still safely attached to the belt around your waist and controlled by the handle.

Re: NavVis VLX - wearable mapping
After yesterdays webinar at Spar3D featuring KAARTA, GeoSLAM, BLK2Go and NavVis VLX, I believe there are still some questions open on how to check if the quality of mobile mapping system is good enough for day to day jobs and projects. Most of us are asked to deliver either a 2D floorplan in 1:50 or 1:100, a BIM model of the most important structural elements, or even a model of MEP elements and rooms and not only the point cloud itself. So we have put together a guide that describes how to evaluate the quality of a point cloud captured with a mobile mapping device from a modelling perspective.
