Register 360: Cannot open moved projct
Long story short, I'm processing a couple of jobs, both of which are fairly large (200+ scans each). Because of the large file sizes I'm dealing with, I can only process one job at a time on my computer. So when I'm done with one job, I copy all of my data on to a portable hard drive (which I give to IT for data archiving).
After finishing a job, and then moving all of the files to the portable drive, I noticed an issue that requires me to revisit the project in Register 360.
The problem I am having is that I simply cannot navigate to the new location of the folder and simply open the project. I tried reconnecting the project folder in R360, but it says no projects found.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but cannot figure out how to open up this project from a different drive location.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using the gui inside Reg360 to perform the first move for your projects, or moving them in windows explorer?

Re: Register 360: Cannot open moved projct
I copied the project to an external hard drive, then deleted the project on my computer to free up space for the next project I had to work on. I guess I don't understand why we can't simply just open a project from a different location, just like I could do if I copied an Autocad file or Recap project to a different project.
It nearly defeats the ability for me to back up these projects, as I don't have access to the location that I am archiving them to. So I have to copy the project onto a portable drive, then give the drive to my IT manager who then copies it onto the backup drive.
I am fairly new to using Register 360, so please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.

How are you copying your projects, Are you using the Archive function from inside Reg360.
This is the only way to remove a project from the system and bring it back at a later date. This is not the same as relocate.
From inside reg360 set a archive folder. you can then archive your project give that to your IT person. To bring it back. de archive it and place it back in to the archive folder and reg360 will pick it back up again. The backend of reg360 is database driven which is why the folder structure of your storage location (when viewed in explorer) looks strange

Re: Register 360: Cannot open moved projct
I was copying the entire project folder in windows explorer. I wasn't aware that I had to archive the project within Reg360 just to move/copy the project. I'm assuming those are the .raf files that are then able to be copied and moved within windows explorer?
So for my projects that I did copy from within Windows explorer, are they useless? Is there no way to "recover" them and then properly archive them?

That would be a question for the Leica support team as I can't remember the answer off the top of my head. I think its possible but don't quote me on that

Hi,
Did you manage to find a solution to this? We've got the same problem here.

You can use the "Reconnect Project Storage Folder" option located in the Projects & Storage settings. Simply move the project folder to the location it was before moved off of your PC then select the root folder that the project folder is located in. It will run for a minute and should tell you it reconnected "x" many projects.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Register 360: Cannot open moved projct
I am another victim to this...
but I managed to go back to the old PC and I am archiving our projects. Once all those files (*.raf) are created, do I just delete the projects, extract my software license and move on a new PC and IMPORT?
Does does "reconnect" do?

You really don't have to go through that painful process of archiving and then re-importing to rebuild your database of your project library. If you have a new install on a new computer. Just copy the ENTIRE Project directory from the old computer to the new computer (where-ever you want it, hopefully on a different drive than where your REG360temp directory is) then as shown above in danielmckague post - create a STORAGE DIRECTORY that matches the new location where you copied your old directory to (it doesn't have to be the same location or drive letter,)crullier wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:24 am I am another victim to this...

then use the "RECONNECT" feature on the database management GUI and point to the new location and it will run for a few minutes (depending on how many projects need "RECONNECTED").
It will re-build the Project Library DB on your new computer.

BTW- there is a faster way to archive and reconnect projects which Leica has incorporated on the last release (v2020.1) called FAST ARCHIVE. It basically copies the project under an alpha named folder (so you know what the project is, instead of trying to figure it out by looking at the assets within the encrypted folder). You can then "RECONNECT this folder and RELOCATE the project to your main storage. This process (FAST ARCHIVE/RECONNECT/MOVE) is still faster than writing out an RAF file (Zipped up Encrypted REG 360 project) and then re-importing it (unzipping it ,reconnecting and writing it back into the Reg360 ServerDb.db file in an internal Leica scripting step)
