BIM modelling services - experiences
Hi All
I have done some outscourcing with 3D drawings from time to time and must say, it hasent been a walk on roses!
Every time i have made a post about this, i get bombarded with indians, who wants to take in work, they cant handle.
So i thought to make a thread, where people can comment with the companys, where they had good experiences and companys, where they had really bad experiences!
The main problem with the India based companys is, that they never say no and they dont have the needed QC. I have never got a good BIM model from an India based company, which has resulted in posponed deadlines and unsatisfied customers.
So please share your experiences.
Good - I have had Sergio frem 3dscan.it to make a couple of Revit drawings, with very good experience! Sergio and his team is firm, do a lot of qualitychecking and deliver on time.
Bad - Magnasoft! didnt care about the quality. Showed me refrences and promised to deliver something simmilar (which they didnt) and used 4 times as long, as they calculated. THeir project maneger went home for christmas, turned off his phone and didnt deliver the job. They cost me an important customer.

Re: BIM modelling services - experiences
This is interesting topic. We currently don't have time or enough knowledge to make complicated and accurate BIM-models out of scans and have sometimes missed some good jobs because of that. So we have been thinking about hiring someone / some company to do those for us, when necessary.
Magnasoft constantly spams me and my boss by email (and sometimes by phone), that they would like to help us with modeling and even do some little project for free. We have been little sceptical about that, even though their references looks fine.MalteHC wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 7:40 amBad - Magnasoft! didnt care about the quality. Hi guys,
I think that's a common issue with sharing the projects.
We have the same issue with these 'xyz' companies. They are bombarding us but we are a small team and we are preferring companies from Europe or USA/Australia for the CAD drafting or Revit or to do something in-house.
best,
TG

Hey Guys.
We are a Sydney based company in Australia - 20 years experience in the surveying industry and doing Asbuilt models.
If you want us to look at anything for you send us a email.
We do try and keep most of our work in the country but the odd times we do international.
We’re Aussies - Speak English - and I know the feeling I get inbox msgs daily from the Indians.
Here’s one I completed yesterday
You can catch us on [email protected]
Cheers

This is main problem.
Usually what we prefer.
1)we have to discuss with client more about the project.
2) we have to send work in progress file to customers for QC purposes so it is easy to find what are exactly customers need.

Re: BIM modelling services - experiences
Many firms that I've worked at have tried outsourcing for a few months, only for most projects to be redrawn in-house or extensively fudged to meet deadline.
I find constant communication is critical to find out the clients requirements (it's rarely what they ask for). Since many outsouring companies must overcome timezone and language barriers, this limits the communication with the client and often results in a BIM that doesn't fit their needs. The communication barriers are amplified when a company subcontracts their work to an outsourcing firm and you wind up with an expensive game of telephone.
But that's just my experience.

Re: BIM modelling services - experiences
Most laser scan users are Architects and construction contractors and what they need is either 3D architectural model mostly in Revit these days or detailed as-built shop drawings used during different construction stages. We have the same issue with outsourcing and try to keep everything in house as much as possible. But we have also good experience with some people in this forum.

Re: BIM modelling services - experiences
Ok I can understand time zone barrier is the advantage as well as disadvantage but while working on Scan to BIM modelling send them client work in progress file consistently is the best thing so I client can do QC check comfortably and share comments in any corner if client feel my work is not going well up to my satisfaction he can stop his work and remaining work he can start in house platform. This is how many companies work.
Example MWH UK, Technimont ICB Italy, Black and Veatch USA, worley parson Australia,
So they can enhance their manpower for quality control, site supervision, client meeting and support.learning new software. This how all multinational company develop them self. And earn huge money.
So outsourcing is not a problem. But how to work and what to work how to get work from others that is the skill. This is my personal opinion and experience which I learn from above companies which I mentioned.
Cheers buddy
do outsourcing share your in hand work to others and utilise others time for your development, so your time you can utilise only for your development.

Re: BIM modelling services - experiences
One of the main issues, is that a lot of the india based companys, never say no to work, and like, try to use the "learn by doing", which results in the lack of quality. I dont pay for their development and if iu pay them to do a job, i expect quality work, otherwise it is useless for me.
And they doesnt really get, that i wont do their QC. When they send me the model, i expect it to be 100% accurate. If i find deviations, it makes me doubt the entire model.
And i dont really buy, that they have to figure out along the way, how we want it done. We have a firmly demandspecification, which our subcontractors inside EU have no problem to use.
But anyway, it pretty much seems, that this thread mainly has become about, why not to outscource.
Nobody had any good experience?
