How long does a single scan take with Color?
How long does a single scan take without color?

How was this registered together?
Thanks Orinn. In answer to your questions:
- Currently a single colour scan takes 185 seconds on average. Scan time will depend a little on lighting conditions due to camera exposure times.
- Scanning without colour takes on average around 165 seconds.
- These scans were registered with our simple semi-automatic cloud-to-cloud registration tool. This software is still under active development but within the next couple of months should enable on-the-fly registration from a mobile device.

Thank you for the quick reply.

When could we receive a unit as part of an Alpha testing group?

We're still in the process of finalising our testing plans, if you send me an email/message I'll log your interest and keep you up to date.

Hi all,

Recently we've been scanning lots of interesting spaces and generally putting the E3D prototype scanner through its paces. I've compiled the sample data in a new section of the Effortless 3D website: http://www.effortless3d.com/sample-data/

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Ioannis, we're targeting launch throughout Europe in Q3 2018. However, in Q2 we'll be doing a limited beta launch, if you'd like to be involved then just drop me a message.

Hi Richard,

I'm a Matterport user and became aware of Effortless 3D on the WGAN forum (amidst all the hoo-haa!). I'm in the NorthEast about level with you and would very much like to have a quick chat. I've not managed to find an email address for you and am too new on this forum to send a Private message.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Ian cross

The colourisation of these scans is very impressive, and its something that is useful for the CAD guys to see in the office. We have been using the Zeb Revo recently, but interpreting the point cloud can pose a challenge.

I am curious about the accuracy, which is stated at 3cm. I downloaded the Hook Norton Museum data set in e.57 format, though each scan position is not selectable, the noise in each scan appears to be around 1cm at around 5m. Is the quoted 30mm at the maximum range of 20m?

It also appears that the cloud registration hasn't worked very well on this sample project as you can see two data sets.

As a survey tool, it seems similar to the BLK360 in that a lot of independent control would be needed to ensure the data is levelled and to survey standard. I can see this being used to generate plans at 1:100 scale, but it looks like additional measures would be needed to produce 1:50 drawings.

Hi James, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you like the look of the colourisation, it's all automatic and done on-board the scanner, the result being a coloured point cloud within 30 seconds of scan completion.

You're absolutely right, the quoted 30mm accuracy is at the maximum range of 20m which means much of the data is more accurate, as you saw with the sample data.

Yes I also noticed that slight scan misalignment. That sample was registered in the field using the simple semi-automatic tool we're developing, this is under active development and still needs some fine tuning. Having said that, I believe that misalignment is down to a slightly out of calibration prototype - we're currently building out the next design iteration which will eliminate those issues.

All the best,
Richard
