Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
youtu.be/s6BhWPgjV6E
Trimble has made efficient, accurate, indoor mapping a reality with its Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
TIMMS will be having its first official UK showcase on the Trimble stand at this year’s GEO Business show. Set to revolutionise indoor mapping, this unique system combines LiDAR and spherical data to enable the creation of accurate, real-life maps and models of an interior space and all its contents. Ideal for GNSS denied areas such as plants and factories, airports, train stations, music halls, theatres, schools mines and tunnels, TIMMS will be a key tool for anyone involved in refurbs, building surveys, disaster management etc.
TIMMS offers:
- High accuracy (x,y,z)
- High speed collection: Map over 240,000 square feet in a single day
- One data collect, multiple users (address the needs of many with one scan)
- Lower data acquisition cost
- Reduced infringement on operations
- Fast and secure worldwide access to data
TIMMS consists of four core elements:
1. Spherical camera
2. LiDAR engineered to work indoors in mobile mode
3. Computers and electronics for completing data acquisition and data processing for producing final 2D / 3D maps and models
4. Applanix Advanced Positioning System

Re: Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
As much as i would love to be able to do all that in one day, i somehow have my reservations
The system looks interesting, but:
1. how much does it weigh?
2. how tall is it? from the video it looks like 2m
3. how do you scan staircases?
4. is the box at the top a camera and are the pics overlayed on the scan?
just a few initial thoughts

Re: Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
Hi Daniel
A have some responses for you:
1. TIMMS weighs just under 50kg, it glides very nicely on its wheels but carrying it from floor to floor does require 2 people.
2. It extends from 1.7m to 2.2m. so you can fit it under low doors and then extend the camera over your head.
3. Staircases. Pushing the cart to the closest position at the tops and bottom of the staircase will often give you enough data. Otherwise you could take the scanner off and put onto a tripod if needed.
4. The camera sits at the top of the unit. The images are at this time a separate deliverable, available either as spherical jpegs or as an online viewer. The pointcloud colourisation is not available yet but should be available as a future release.
I hope this helps you, if you are available to attend Geobusiness we will have the product on the Trimble stand.

Re: Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
Very nice.
Does Trimble still sell these?
I have the FARO X330 scanner i see mounted on the platform and am interested in making accurate indoor measured building plans. This may be a good answer to my needs.
Any suggestions?

Re: Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping System (TIMMS)
Does anyone know the price range these things go for? I'd really like to know if the time saved using this is worth the investment or if going for a GeoSlam might be the better option
