surphaser rental, process flow, targets
We are looking for three(3) pieces of information, all concerning Surphaser scanners:
1. Who rents Surphaser Scanners and which models do they have (that have been calibrated)
2. what process flow do you use after capturing the data?
---a. do you capture data with Surphaser software or with something else (someone mentioned using Polyworks to run the scanner as opposed to the Surphaser software)
---b. convert to what export formats after extracting targets (.ptx from .c3d goes into Cyclone and Scene and Polyworks)
---c. extract targets with what software (which targets, spheres, half spheres that fit in tracker nest, quadrant targets that fit in tracker nest, etc)
---d. register with what software (Polyworks, Scene, Cyclone, Surphaser software, spatial analyzer(just targets)
3. what do you use for targets for registration (a tracker will be used to acquire the same targets) ? [see 2.c above]
We used a Surphaser (re-branded as a Trimble FX acquired in 2008) before, but used paper quadrant targets for registration in Cyclone. No tracker/Totalstation control - small closed loop projects.
But the Trimble FX used was before the 25HSX was released.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have, use, and can rent Surphasers. Plus we use most of the workflows you describe.
Give us a call to discuss these details. We should be able to help.

Steve
We use an FX with FX Controller (.c3d to .tzs files) and RealWorks for registration and processing.
For targeting we use a mixture of spheres and chequerboards depending on circumstances.
Specifically to combine the scans with laser tracker control we use several Hubbs Precision Scan Spheres which are designed for use with 1.5" tracker nests

Anyone aware of a company who rents out Surphaser scanners in the UK?

Stephen
You could try OR3D (https://www.or3d.co.uk/) or MD3D (http://www.md3d.uk.com/). I'm sure either would scan for you, but not sure about scanner hire.

Hi Gents,
Do you know any other Surphaser rental companies from the EU apart from the ones mentioned in the UK?
Thanks,
R.

Re: surphaser rental, process flow, targets
Hi Guys
We currently have the Model 400 which is being used for many jobs across civil work and aerospace, linking in with total station coordinates and laser tracker networks. I can help with the certain workflow quieries as well, I am currently taking the data into Geomagic and Scene but will be trying others in time.
We do have scope to rent this unit out based upon training being supplied and proof of insurance. There is also a possiblity to rent this unit across europe but we would need to talk in more detail about it so feel free to Pm me.
If you are after other units such as the Ultra Short Range or Model 10 then Mike Davies will be the man to talk to from MD3D.
If you have any questions on the Surphaser equipment send them my way and I'll do my best to answer them.
Regards
Patrick
