Bad colorization of scans in FARO Scene using NCTech ColourCloud

Post by lcome »

Hello everyone,
I am having an issue with the NCTech ColourCloud application in FARO Scene 7.0 : I have colored the scans manually and individually with the corresponding .nctri file but for the far areas with low data, I am observing the issue that you can see on the snapshot. It looks like the process of coloring rotates the scans and creates strips of colors like a bad signal reception on TV.
I am investigating to find a solution but so far I don't have any clue. Would anyone have any idea to correct this ?

Have you tried processing the panos individually using immersive studio?
Try that first and see if you get any anomalies.....if they're ok then the issue could possibly be with Scene.
Are you using the colourcloud plug in?

As Colin says, try processing the .nctri file in Immersive Studio. You could also try processing the scan data outside of scene using the stand alone Colourcloud app (you'll need to export to .e57 from Scene). this will help identify where the issue is occurring.

I have processed the .nctri file with Immersive studio, created the panos and colorized the scan again with the .nctri file. The panoramic photo looks ok in the immersive viewer but I got the same bad results in Scene. I used the colourcloud plugin that appears in FARO Scene.
I haven't tried processing the scan data outside of Scene with the stand alone colourcloud application, I am still waiting for NCTech to send me the licence. I will let you know once I'll be able to test it.
I thought that Immersive studio updates the .nctri file once it has been processed, is it true or should I use a different method ?
Thanks for your collaboration.

You don't need a license for the stand alone version of ColourCloud. You can download the latest version here: https://nctech.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/227370407

No, Immersive Studio doesn't update the .nctri file once it's been processed.

Thank you Badders,
I've opted for the ColourCloud stand alone solution for my next project. I only had to colorized 12 scans and the results were acceptable. Do you know how we can fix the problem in FARO "Scene" ?
