Too bad we can't get all of the vendors to run a set of industry standard tests on
the same "targets", like the Univ of New Orleans test plate.
Also publish a set of "industry standard" specs and then any additional ones they would like to publish.

E57 is an industry standard format.

Why can't we have industry standard specs that mean the same thing to everyone?
(end of rant)
It's a great idea. A standard set of specifications for data accuracy indifferent, standard situations and over a range of distances. It's one for an independent though, not for manufacturers to do themselves. Much in the same way some mobile phone or PC review groups have standard tests they put all new kit through.

So why not us? If we propose and agree a standard test which we want to apply to all kit so we get genuine comparisons, then whoever has that kit puts it through the test, reports their results in a dedicated section here?
Could start off with one for 'typical laser scanners' ie between 0-350m then if it proves useful, a small scale one for hand scanners then a large scale one for long range kit later.

Can LASiris VR replace CCTV for Sewer Inspection?
The sewer size is 4x4 to 1x1 and 100~200 meter long.
There is no Wifi, no GPS

We have an R&D project "Sewer3D" from Seoul city government.
Once Seoul city accept the new technology, they'll have to take 1,000 KM every year.
The current lidar technology is too heavy, big for small sewer, and the performance is terrible.

The requirements are :
1) Create hi-res 3d VR image without gps
2) able to measure some defected area.
3) Sewer is rectangular box. we need unfolded image, so we need SDK.

is that possible? we have invested some SLAM products , but failed because Sewer is not feature rich environment.

Although the size and weight of LASiris are suitable for your needs, you're going to have the same issues with LASiris as you are with any scanner regarding registration.

Registration can only work if there is visual difference or structural difference between 'similar' looking areas. One possibility is to place retro reflector markers at the base of each scan. That way you could detect where the previous scan was.

We are attending SPAR in a couple of weeks time, so please feel free to come and speak to us and look at sample data we will have on show.
NCTech have been very busy, so additional to our new LASiris VR, iris VR and iris Pro, there will be another new surprise that will be unveiled for the first time at SPAR!
We look forward to seeing you there.

The SPAR 3D event is going well, if you were lucky enough to attend you will have seen yet another new product on the NCTech stand to complete the new lineup of hardware for 2017.
To join the new product lineup of LASiris VR, irisVR and iris360 pro, the Mobile Mapper is our new 90 Megapixel, 6fps, 4 sync'd lens vehicle mounted camera system. For those looking for the highest resolution and quality imaging from a vehicle mounted system, this rugged guy is designed for exactly that!
Already in use with a few selected clients, images of the Mobile Mapper will be online soon.
Please contact us directly for more details on this product.
