Webshare on personal server
Hi guys,
I'm questioning about share Webshare Cloud online. Do people use their own server, our external server with Webshare 2go? And not the faro solution.
Because i will try this, but a would know the minimum capacity of the server.
Thank you

Vincent,
Webshare cloud doesn't require your own server.

Re: Webshare on personal server
Hi David!
Thank's for reply. What i want is share my webshare on internet like this : https://websharecloud.com
And to do that Faro propose this solution : http://websharecloud.faro.com, with a coast of 790€/year.
But it's too expensive for my actual utilization (not commercial use, just demonstration)
So i was thinking to rent a small dedicated server, install PHP and database and put into the webshare cloud 2go

Re: Webshare on personal server
I was searching for something and found this thread.
You can easily upload a webshare project to a website domain. Make a new directory with a chosen name through ftp. Only upload the web directory
and the ws2go.html file to this domain and you're ready to go.
Here's a sample, i've placed it somewhere in the desert just to have no legal issues.

What are you using to get the web files out of Faro Scene?

Re: Webshare on personal server
i create a webshare project and then create webshare2go.
From this data, i take the web folder and copy the data in this folder to my webspace. Easy as that.
I must say, i work with scene 6.2.2.7. Don't know if it is still possible with scene 2018

You have to take some extra care in order to be gdpr compliant with this workflow.

I do see some challenges with the examples above.

Re: Webshare on personal server
I've just put the examples on this site as an example.
I know this site is not https yet but it's for testing. Up till now i always transferred webshares through downloadlinks to my clients. Because i also use Riegl and their ripano works great i did some testing. I also changed the coordinates so it looks like to be in the desert. No harm done
When i would use this for clients there is going to be password protection on it.

Re: Webshare on personal server
A simple password will not eliminate all the issues as you still need documentation and agreements with your clients and users about storing their data and personal information.
Sending passwords via http is probably also a problem as everything will be transmitted in plain text.
Your example links to the WebShare Cloud Terms of services (an old version of the TOS) which definitly does not apply here, as this is not a FARO service. The document should probably be exchanged to something appropriate for your offer.
You must also provide a contact information and so on...
Don't get me wrong, I am not against what you are doing. I just wanted to point this out as this is a big topic nowadays.
It is not so straight forward anymore to offer something web-based.

Re: Webshare on personal server
When you would place the same webshare on the server from faro you would have the same issues. In the small print i bet that there is going to be something said that faro is not responsible for the data that is on the server.
I don't want to check this but i bet that there are a lot of unblurred cars, people, houses of neighbours in webshares that don't want to be visible but just don't know.
Some precautions have to be taken but don't reinvent the wheel.
When i'm at a public event and there are photos taken and put on facebook, my kids are on facebook without my explicit approval. What can i do? Sue the person that placed them on there in public. Well good luck for starting something without any ending.
When i am at a convention i do not sign an agreement that pictures may be put online of me. When i pass a faro boot and you take a picture where i'm passing by i could theoretically sue the photographer.
This whole GDPR is going to die a silent way i think with all this social media around. Here in Belgium you get into problems when you place a pic of a burglar on facebook. That he entered you're place without you're approval is just minor stuff.
Eu-regulations are getting ridiculous.
