SCENE 6.2.3.9 too slow to register projects?

Post by TommyMaddox »

Is anyone else having serious difficulties getting projects registered in this new version of SCENE? I had a 24 scan project I've been trying to register, and simply running it through top view/target registration/preprocessing has taken almost a week running on a powerful computer and it still hasn't finished or added color. I'm really not sure what is going on here. I registered the scans in InfiPoints and it only took a couple hours including manual adjustment and preprocessing.

Surely I'm not the only person experiencing issues with this right?

In the performance tab of Task manager, are all the CPU usage graphs showing max use when its running?

We had a similar issue after a scene upgrade when our machine was only using 4 of the cores.

No it isn't being fully utilized. showing as 20-25% of CPU utilization (32 cores total), and about 6GB/128GB RAM.

Tommy,
I do this week in and week out and I've never seen that kind of performance.

I've noticed that processing the WebShare data is taking a lot longer. I never timed it before the upgrade but I've processed a scene with 98 scans pre-update and don't remember it taking this long. Now I've got a 70 scan scene and I'm trying to create the WebShare project and it's been processing for 4 days. Anyone else having this issue or am I alone in this?

Writing out a Webshare Cloud takes a LOT longer than the old server-based Webshare, but I've never known it take days. However saying that we rarely use colour, and on Friday I timed five hours to write out a Webshare of just six high-res colour scans!

I don't want to hijack this thread but thought I'd comment on the WebShare issue that was posted here.
We discovered a bug in the WebShare export recently that causes the export process of the scan images to take very long under certain circumstances.
Reading your posts, it seems as if you are having the exact same issue. I apologize for the inconvenience. This really sounds very annoying.

The bug is currently under investigation and we are trying to provide a fix asap.
May I ask you to post the scanner model/firmware version you recorded the data with and also the SCENE version number? This might help us to verify the root cause that we have identified for this problem.
Thanks!

I'm using a FARO Focus3D X330 HDR, firmware version 5.5.6.50093. Scene is currently at version 6.2.3.9.

Thanks for your response!
