Bad Quality Istar Coloured Orthophotos in Scene

Post by jbijlstra »

Dear Readers,

with Colourcloud V1.10, I coloured Faro Scans of a Church with iSTAR Panoramas. However when I export Orthophotos in Scene the quality of the Photos is bad. My question is: what did I do wrong in the process from colouring the Scans till exporting the orthophotos in Scene?
In colourcloud I tried the 3 options from iSTAR Equirectangular(PNG) but still I have black lines in my Faro View.
In the attachment I put one Orthophoto and the View in Faro Scene
.

I hope someone can solve my Problem.

Thanks,

Jaap

Jaap,
Try running the photos through iStar's Immersive Studio first, then import them into Scene.

How did you position iSTAR relative to the scanner head on the tripod?

Hello Bruce,

Thank you for the reply. I generated all the Panoramo fotos in Jpeg Format. However i don't get what the NCTech Colourcloud Software generates with the JPEG File. In the Log file I only see that the .nctri File is used to Colour the Pointcloud.

Hello Andrew,

I changed the height of my Scanner tripod around 40mm when I fixed the Istar.

So did the tripod move between taking off the scanner head and attaching the iSTAR camera?

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for the reply. It is possible that the tripod moved with exchange from scanner and Istar. But can that be the reason of the Orthophoto quality. Because in every seperate scan the colouring looks good especially when I export from for instance 8 scans in a clippingbox it happens. When I have less scans, the quality is a better. I attached another orthophoto somewhat better.

Seems like you are visualizing individual scans rather than having one unified data set.
Try to create a project point cloud with color balancing activated. Also activate the duplicate points filter.
This should remove most of the visual clutter.

Hello Daniel,

that solved the issue! Thank you a lot. In the attachment is visible how the orthophoto looks with using the project point cloud option with the filters.
