New Trimble SX10

Post by landmeterbeuckx »

Seems nice but i have the feeling about these instruments like a "combi-oven", traditional oven and microwave in one. I don't like them in one, seperate oven and microwave works much better. It's the same with the Leica MS instruments.

Just my thoughts.

Thx for posting. It kind of goes against how I think of scanning - but hey more point clouds the better! :)

Thanks for the post, this is a very exciting looking Instrument (yet to get my hands on one) and the data looks very good indeed.

Trimble have been doing a lot with Imagery (photogrammetric digitising from calibrated images) over the last few years and alongside developing very fast and accurate scanners, this is a true hybrid and you can use both technologies very effectively. It is also a very different concept, it is a total station first and foremost but there is no eyepiece - the operation is totally digital through one of the many onboard cameras. You can even record the position of the nail you've setup over for QA purposes with the downward facing camera (that's a nice touch).

It'll be on the Trimble stand next week at Intergeo if anyone is planning a visit!

I have been told pricing. The unit itself will cost around £28k +VAT (just the total station). With TBC software, data logger and the normal robotic accessories the full package should be approx. £38k +VAT.

With the handle attached solid it looks that a 360 dome scan will take a lot of time (spec say 12min) . It seems to me that the main purpose is detail scanning of part of sites.
The advantage is the survey-method of scanning, no spheres or checkerboards required, immediat control.

The absence of a display and look-through eyepiece to me is the same as with a small camera compared to a slr one.
