Sample Surphaser scan data

Post by dirdim »

FYI - We have 4 samples of raw Surphaser scan data in ascii format that can be downloaded from our website at: http://www.directdimensions.com/lm_modelexamples.htm (and plenty of other samples also).

Hi,
Great looking scans!
What about some 'difficult' surface? It would be very interesting to see how surphaser handles marble, gilded or dark metallic surface?
Regards
Jiri

Jiri,
It depends on the particular scanner unit since the surphaser can be customized at the factory for scanning of different types of surfaces and different applications i.e. it can have different optics and laser settings

We can customize only sensitivity curve and laser beam divergence. So the best thing you can do on marble is to get narrow (or wide) laser spot and hope that penetration will be uniform enough. In any case, you'll lose small details of surface, get deeper caves and sharper ridges, and total distance to the surface will be some millimeters greater than real distance.
Dark metal is not bad (it has enough returned light and not mush direct reflection), but with shining metal you can get anything. Difficult surfaces are difficult for everybody, no miracles here.
