Compare best fit circle to points used to create

Post by JClement »

Hi all, I have created a best fit circle based off some extracted points. After creating the circle I want to see what sort of deviation there is for the points vs the circle, but I cannot find out how to do this, is it possible?

Is this Cyclone Model?

If so, select the circle and hit 'i' for information. Should give the accuracy of the fit to the points.

Won't give deviation of each point to the circle.

Cheers,

Hi
If you have Rhino software you can use Grasshopper free plugins to fit circle to points and it gives you the details.

Hello JClement,

For each geometry extraction, it is possible to extract a heatmap point cloud that contains the deviation values with the extracted object.

For the best circle, and the others, you need to check the "Best Points" output. You will get a colorized point cloud with a colormap and a gradient that you can edit yourself.

Besides, some results are exposed in the dialog.

Hi,

How to do this for Tank?

Hello

I don't know what your workflow is; but please find below different ways to inspect points for storage tank applications:

Extraction (cylinder, circle)
  • Group the extracted points into a point cloud (Right click / Group)
Select the point cloud, extract the best geometrical shape
Select the option as it was mentioned previously (best points)
Select the new created cloud, double click to edit the inspection colours
    Show quotations

Tank inspection
  • Tank plugin (requires PRO or Plant licence)
    3D inspection (points vs shape)
Profile section workflow (like for tunnel)
    Section vs section inspection
