The MS-98 looks an interesting piece of kit, I think Andy at PQS Tech Solutions will have one in the UK soon... ;)
Saw this kit at Geoweek and talked extensively with Stephane Lissilour about it.

Nothing on the cloud, all own data. I was very impressed. Seemed like an ideal solution for both indoors as outdoors (with pictures).

That's a plus-Dynamic cleaning -a plus. If the imagery is fine that would be a test and accuracy that compares with the VLX3

I'm currently working on a client data set they say was done with a Viametris and the pano images are quite poor and not currently embedded in an E57. Not sure what unit he's currently using though, but will check and post some images back. Comparison to the VLX3 is difficult as the VLX data is heavily smoothed through post processing to eliminate noise and reduced to a regular grid. The Viametris data I have seen is raw and hence exhibits some noise, particularly over multiple passes. I've put a few examples below, but it is worth noting that this is from a first time use of the kit from a new user and not really comparable to vendor supplied sample data. Big caveat also is that I don't know which specific model was used here. As with any of these units, the only way you can get a proper feel for the quality of the unit is to get a demo done on a site you're already familiar with and, ideally, have already scanned with another device. I'd also be interested in hearing about the end user prices, rumours at Intergeo were that they were reasonably competitive. Not seeing any recent prices online for the newer kit.

10mm slice through building
viametris 10mm slice 1.png
Zoom into slice shows about 12mm of spread / noise on the points
viametris 10mm slice 2.png
Noise of about 15mm on what look like registration artifacts

Hey Smacl,

Michelle here and I work with PQS tech the Viamteris re-seller in the UK. I just wondered if you were able to confirm that the data you have was from the Viametris. Seem strange that the Pano images are poor quality (the cameras are really high quality) and we've never experienced any issues. That's not to say that poor images can be gathered, It does come down to getting the right settings.

I'd be happy to share some data sets with you if you were interested so you could see some of the outputs we have. We not only re-sell but also use the system almost on a daily basis so love to chat with users and end users of data sets about scans etc.

There are lots of options for the processing Ppims is the one provided by Viametris which we use all the time. It's quite an easy software to use. Happy to answer any questions you have or you can email [email protected]

Hi Michelle,

I'd love to get some other sample datasets. Could well be the image issues related to export. We normally take panoramic photos with pose into our software via E57 format, see examples from NavVis and Geoslam, but we got them in JPEG with a separate CSV file in this case. We'd be keen to similarly support Viametris in our software,

Shane
