Hi cassius.
Sorry didnt mean to come out as insulting, just trying to help.
The other comments about scene was as general chat, not directed to you necessarily As for your fine registration issue, you have a weird link here, it is probably what is pulling your project.
Best regards

Re: SCENE 2023.1 - This Changes Everything!
Just came back to say I ran into my first C2C ''fine registration'' issue just like you stated Cassius.
I never found to have that issue since we always used spheres, but this project I had 2 clusters (with spheres)-both registered perfectly with the new algorythm and needed to link them with c2c. Usually I make clusters of 2 scans to link both clusters then break it up but now this is what I tried knowing the new algorythm;
I placed them within mm of each other using the surveyed targets, exploded both clusters so they are both on the same level, now again all scans are within mm of one another, but yes I did not add ''connections'' as I assumed it would find it just like the old algorithm would. Launched the fine registration making sure my target based has no enable correspondence search. It blew everything up, the whole c2c went haywire. Even tough I had control points every 20m in a grid.
I have to go survey right now, will see how this can be avoided but to me it is somewhat of a downgrade compared to how old c2c registration work, it used to take scans within the close proximity only. I will try adding connections between the cluster before launching it. I have to admit this is somewhat annoying and can hear the echoes of my colleagues complaining when this will happen to them as well.

Re: SCENE 2023.1 - This Changes Everything!
@Cassius @Leandre are there planes or other targets you used that could be misinterpreted by the programm? (+ what are fine reg. settings?)
i had a 600 scans project divided into 5 houses/10 clusters that all connected with an inner courtyard. top view registration of clusters didnt work, so i had to use planes and checkerboards. some of them where about 40 cms from each other and with the update the settings for fine registration were automatically changed and set at 5meters searchradius if i recall correctly. so in the hybridregistration the programm (i think) did misinterpret some targets and thought "well 40cm is within my 5meters, i will try to match), which made the whole thing fall apart as a chainreaction. i guess in the old version this would not have happened, cause there was no hybrid reg.
i did delete most of the planes i used for the rough reg. and the next fine reg. did work without a problem. i did find out about the change in fine reg parameters by the update afterwards, so these targets were definitly my problem.
cheers
PS: I feel you about the UI, Leandre

Re: SCENE 2023.1 - This Changes Everything!
1. I stand on the basis that if you have to use planes for registration that means you did your scanning poorly. If the scan is done correctly no need for planes at all.
The results I posted here are just based on c2c or fine registration (another critique of latest version - what's the point for changing the names of registration methods? It looks like Faro just want to indicate a change for a change sake so lets rename the methods...)
2. I have reverted to 2022.2 version and want nothing to do with 2023.1 until its improved.
3. New buttons are great (refine connections, optimization, update statistics etc.) - just add them to old UI and it will be great and bring registration button to very front. There is so much space there to do just that.
4. The most important point - Faro is going in the wrong direction with this enforcement of UI. Whoever came up with this idea is a royal plonker and I personally challenge him to a debate just to prove how silly he/she is. You need to realise that your scanners are sold because Scene is - correction - was the friendliest reg software on the market. Leica is laughing I'm sure - they tried to copy you and now they see how you shoot yourself in the knee.

How did you revert back? Thanks.cassius769 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 4:22 pm Connections do not make much difference. I tested it on different settings including filling connections to different degree of density and the outcome was always the same.
I have reverted to 2022.2 in the meantime and this problem does not occur. I have satisfactory level of registration quality straight after first c2c.
I dare say that new version of Scene is weaker than previous one.
