Hi Guys,
we recently purchased the NavVis VLX3, and are trying to fins a workflow whereby we can take our scan data from Navion (Navis software) and export into a rasterised geo referenced image so we can import in Cintoo. or another 3rd party solution.

This email was from the guys at GeoSLAM:
"validated that a floorslice images from their Connect can be imported into Plan Studio (which requests a Georeferenced image) or can import a (PKF File Format) at the correct scale and location using the world file. images apparently come into the GeoSLAM software automatically scaled and rotated to the correct georeferenced coordinates. now as we didn't end up buying the GeoSLAM hardware they aren't likely to help any further?

The GeoSLAM floorslice images, exported automatically from Connect, also import geospatially correct into AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and many other apps that support georeferenced imagery."

Any help with a probable work flow would be most helpfull.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the SLAM game! I hope you make good use of the technology :like:

The automated Connect workflow I drafted had performed this in a single step from the GeoSLAM LAZ, but you can achieve a similar result with a manual approach in Cloud Compare or LAS Tools. Which can be automated using the CLI and a batch script. But I'm afraid GeoSLAM Connect is the only application I know of that can automate this directly in the UI via the scripting engine.

NavVis images get exported in a fully geo-referenced format if you use the E57 export option from Ivion. Sample of this in our own software here. Instructions I used provided by Kyle Hodgson of NavVis to download the e57 with pano images were;

1. enter the site and click the 3 sliders on the left
2. Click processed data
3. tick the box next to the data set
4. click download
5. select filtered point cloud and preferred format (E57)

First time I did this, I didn't get any images as the job was processed without images, so this clearly needs to be turned on in Ivion during initial processing. Once the images were in E57 format, they worked very much like the Geoslam images.

Sounds like this is what our software is doing - PointCab Origins.
Taking the data and generating a rasterised georeferenced image.

Looks nice Martin, we have similar ortho-extraction tools in SCC which can produce Geo-referenced images from slices and sections as jpg + world file, dwg etc... I was wondering whether the opening post was looking for the original geo-referenced panoramic images or extracted ortho images based on specific views, slices and rendering. I suspect ortho image creation from point clouds is available in a number of solutions out there but possibly not NavVis ivion.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for working with us. We are looking at different solutions for this case, one of them is using PointCab. They are one of our trusted solution partners. However, the reseller in your region will be in contact with you for this case. If you need anything direct from us at NavVis, please feel free to reach out to me.
