Most people will probably miss SIGGRAPH 2023. Most people on LSF will probably not care if they miss SIGGRAPH 2023. The presentations will include AI and USD by NVIDIA (If you are not aware of USD, you will not miss much anyway to significantly help yourself).

Jensen Huang CEO of NVIDIA will be giving the keynote address at 8AM, on August 8th (8.8.8 Chinese good luck for some people).

For the less than 100 viewers of this thread that might have not seen the Keynote of Siggraph 2023, be sure to view.
The rest of the non-viewers will be looking for other things for employment anyway in a few years.

Jensen said Open USD is a parallel change model, similar to html for the web, where graphics and AI are inseparable.

It’s worth noting that this is the Media & Entertainment side of Autodesk, i.e. Maya. The AEC folks from Autodesk are probably not involved. However, Hexagon is also a member of that organization so we’ll see how things evolve.

As an aside, the code Maya uses for USD support wasn’t even developed by Autodesk, it was written and opensourced by two of their customers (Pixar and Animal Logic) but has since been adopted by Autodesk.

I haven’t watched the video, but from using it; if USD is like HTML, then it’s like HTML on fentanyl.
