Hello,
I'm wondering if the tribrach is still necessary given the latest RTC360 firmware updates. Since the latest firmware release, it appears the tribrach is becoming obsolete.
Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
Matt
Is a tribrach necessary with latest RTC360 firmware updates?

I would always keep using a tribrach. Why change a workflow you already have. It also gives peace of mind if an error would occur in the software when registering.

If you're referring to the High Tilt Accuracy mode, I haven't ran a tribrach with that scanner once since we bought our first unit... Even before the HTA mode was available. Use control when possible to ensure the data is level, but every time I've tested to see how level the RTC data was when cross referencing benchmarks set from either a builders level or total station, I've never seen it deviate more than 1/8" out of level for the whole dataset. Typically it's closer to 1/16" from my testing.
I'm currently scanning an enormous manufacturing facility and have control points spread out across 1.2 million SF, so I'm very curious to see how well it holds level on it's own before applying control. (I plan on posting a project summary and some info about the scan as it'll be my biggest scan effort to date with around 1500 setups combined)

I recently did just over 1Million sq ft of a tank yard and was out just over 1/8" over the entire project. No tribrach.
