We haven't tried that, purely because we try and avoid ReCap when at all possible.A_Axelsson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:42 pm Has anyone been able to import the E57 files containg panoramas into ReCap hand have them show up as Realviews there?
It seems that all the required info about the panoramas are there in the metadata in the E57-file..

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
I thought to have realviews in ReCap (mirrorballs), the panoramas must be overlayed with XYZ points, standalone images are not possible.A_Axelsson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:42 pm Has anyone been able to import the E57 files containg panoramas into ReCap hand have them show up as Realviews there?

If I'm mistaken that would be great news.

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
You are partially correct, Recap can fudge an image in using the colored point cloud (or intesity for that matter) if the image wasn't exported with whatever you are importing into Recap.
You can have recaps with crisp scanner camera images, or with junky ones recreated from the scan data itself, depends on your workflow/software.

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images

This is due to the reason that Recap was developed to consume and interpret data (structured point cloud & panos) from static scanners.
As VLX is a mobile mapping device:
1.Point cloud is unstructured
2.Panos are embedded differently in the e57 compared to data from terrestrial scanners

We are trying to tackle those challenges for a while already and are happy to discuss this with Recap.
Hope that helps

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
could we not use Cyclone Core and use the C/P-Seires work flow for importing images? The pano export does give us the coordinates for all the images. Hell Cintoo has it working somehow.

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
There is a difference between panorama and panorama.A_Axelsson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:42 pm Has anyone been able to import the E57 files containg panoramas into ReCap hand have them show up as Realviews there?

ReCap expects the panorama to be embedded into the point cloud stations, so when you choose a single pixel in any panorama, then you can select the XYZ position, the colour and reflectivity of that point.
In the E57 provided is an unstructured point cloud (so no stations), and no relation between the panorama and the point cloud, except that the position and orientation of the panorama is known.

Hi Adam, badam wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:13 am you can do that with libe57 library, they has some exxamples to extract images from e57 but certainly need some programming knowledge to work with it, as it is C++, and not an easy script language.
Just out of curiosity does the images has pose informations? can you send an example e57? and how much does it cost to process that kind of data how much does it take, etc? is there any manual cleaning required, etc? We are interested in navvis, but there a lot of unkown in the equations
If you contact NavVis, they will be able provide you with a sample E57 with embedded images. The person I was dealing with was Kyle Hodgson who was very helpful. The pano images are all properly geo-referenced and can be readily overlaid with the point cloud and any other data in the same grid. The need for structured station data is a shortcoming of Recap and not NavVis. See below for an example of this in action (and a handy excuse to show off SCC

You could write a bit of code to restructure the E57 based on camera location specifically for Recap if you had the time and inclination. Not particularly difficult to do for someone with a bit of C++ and LIBE57 knowledge.

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
Happy to help anybody in need, just let me know.
On another note, I often find when someone is looking to use RECAP Ivion stands as a perfect if not better replacement 9 times out of 10 and if you are using Revit, you also get to use our handy Revit plugin. Ivion not only does pretty much everything Recap does, it also reduces strain on your computer by visualising in the cloud, freeing up more power for other application such as Revit.
Shane's example of working with Pano's and point cloud outside of Ivion is a great example!

This looks more like a projection of the point cloud than using mirror balls?smacl wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 12:43 pmHi Adam, badam wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:13 am you can do that with libe57 library, they has some exxamples to extract images from e57 but certainly need some programming knowledge to work with it, as it is C++, and not an easy script language.

Re: NavVis VLX embedded pano images
The 360-degree views from the VLX are pretty low quality anyway. Not sure why you would work so hard for such crappy views...sim.herrod wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:14 amWe haven't tried that, purely because we try and avoid ReCap when at all possible.A_Axelsson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:42 pm Has anyone been able to import the E57 files containg panoramas into ReCap hand have them show up as Realviews there?
