Hi,
I've got a new client who wants to indicate buried cables and pipes on his plans for further reference. Anyone use a system like a Leica DD230 or somethiong from Radiodetection for these tasks?
I would paint the detected positions and scan all in in color to extract to cad-drawings.

Re: Cable locator
Sorry for replying late,
Note that the Leica DD230(220....) and all other locators only locate power, telecommunication and metal cables by induction. For plastic pipes, you need a probe, and for fiberglass, God help, or GPR! It may be better to hire a professional specialist in that area and just download their data.

Aren't you guys in European countries required to put tracer wire on top of critical Plastic/PVC utilities- )i.e. GAS)alekmac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 10:19 am Sorry for replying late,

Re: Cable locator
High presure pipelines of course have connections. It isn't common for all sorts of other utilities (in Belgium, don't know about other countries)gsisman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:43 pmAren't you guys in European countries required to put tracer wire on top of critical Plastic/PVC utilities- )i.e. GAS)alekmac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 10:19 am Sorry for replying late,

Re: Cable locator
In Macedonia, only over fiberglass cables, and I have had cases where 200 meters the tracer are there, the next 200 are not, and so on. For plastic/PVC we even don't expect to find tracer wire.gsisman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:43 pmAren't you guys in European countries required to put tracer wire on top of critical Plastic/PVC utilities- )i.e. GAS)alekmac wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 10:19 am Sorry for replying late,

Re: Cable locator
I have a DD120 CAT SCANNER, DA220 SIGNAL GENERATOR, and a 50m Digitrace. Will do everything you need.
I would strongly advise getting a bit of training on it, to understand what you are picking up, the difference between a trace or interference. There is also a particular way you would go about walking above ground with a detector to give you proper results.

Re: Cable locator
Thanks, Of course some training is necessary. I used kit to detect high presuure pipelines in the past (15 years agp) so i'm somewhat familiar but i know for sure the technology has changed since.JNally wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 8:56 am I have a DD120 CAT SCANNER, DA220 SIGNAL GENERATOR, and a 50m Digitrace. Price between da220 and da230 isn't that great so maybe just buy that one. I'll check it out a bit further.
