Trimble x7 vs BLK360 vs Faro

Post by Ioannis »

I would like your opinion on which one you would choose for small building surveys as an ADD on in a high-end series.
On-site registration also is required.
The drawback of the BLK is the short-range only 40m so the workable range will be 20-30m!

If it is a building survey, would scan range really be an issue? If you are coupling with a high end (P40 for example), just do the externals with the P40 so you have a nice, controlled loop, maybe stair cores too, then do the internals with the add on. As long as it is connected to the P40 data in multiple areas, you could use any of them. It then comes down to quality - is there a lot of detail you need to pick up, do you need colorization etc. Also, I guess it depends on your current software setup and what the high end brand is.

Reading the other thread on the BLK360, the lead times are very long at the moment which may be an issue for you. As Stu has already mentioned, the software and workflow you are already using also plays a big part. If you're already using Leica for registration and processing the BLK would be the simplest option in terms of fitting your current workflow. Similarly, if you are already using Faro or Trimble. Data I've seen from the X7 has been very clean and it seems like a nice piece of kit for the money.

.

Untill know we use Leica scanners but we want a lighter one for indoors.
The only disadvnatage of Trimble is the scanning times with images! Too long capture!

Id look at the new Faro Premium 70. Much better than the previous S70 in a lot of ways. Got a demo of the Panoramics from it last week, Extremely impressed.

Ive done quite a few MBS with the S70 and was happy with the data, the main draw back being the onboard screen being laggy. The new Premium has a field registration app also.

Also its cheaper than an X7 and RTC and more capable than the BLK.

Give Matt Davies in Faro UK a shout he can help you out.

Forgot to say lead times on the new Premium 70 are less than 2 weeks.

You can also add the Ricoh Theta Z1 on top for panos. makes it pretty quick.

Dont expect it to compete with the likes of a P40. But for what you need its perfect!
