import DXF in PointCab Origins
can DXf lines be imported into Origins? It would be useful for making sections in defined positions in AutoCAD

Yes they can.
If you have the vectorizer module, then you can click on File (top menu bar) -> Import Elements
This will open a new window, go there to the second tab (Import CAD), and choose the dwg/dxf file
Every line in the dwg/dxf will be imported in the standard top view as a line.

Re: import DXF in PointCab Origins
If the vectorizer module is not available in the license, then nothing gets imported, due to the fact that the vectorizer group can't get created without the license

It would be nice to be possible to snap to the endpoints of lines or 3d points when making section lines in PC. Now it is always or adjusting coordinates or zooming in and trying to place above the other.VXGrid wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 11:50 amIf the vectorizer module is not available in the license, then nothing gets imported, due to the fact that the vectorizer group can't get created without the license

In theory, wouldn't it be possible to draw vector lines instead and then convert them, since vector line end points are snapable?

buying an entire module just to have delel lines on which to draw the sections, it seems to me ecessive.
Sometimes it is necessary to draw sections in PoinTCAB, sections in pre-established positions in CAD (for example cross sections on curved roads or buildings).
Now we need to draw a random line and then change the coordinates of the ends.
Long thing and possible cause of errors.
It would be much better to be able to
a) import a DXF with reference lines
b) draw the section lines on these lines (with a snap ... it would be perfect)
or
c) directly convert these lines into sections (in the top view)

Stuff for free -> no sales revenue -> no salary for the employees -> no more employees -> no new features (Like reading dwg/dxf files, extracting vector lines, attaching them to the Standard Top View, visualizing them and making them convertable to sections).
Now I am not involved in Pricing at PointCab - but feel free to reach out to [email protected] and ask for a quote.
The workflow is basically:
- File -> Import Elements -> Import Cad
- Browse to DWG/DXF file
- Press import button
- Select vectorizer line
- Click on button "Convert to Section" in Job editor
So let's assume your normal rate is 60€/hour, the module costing 1100€, if you save up to 18 hours in time with that workflow (in addition that it is less error, than copying all position values yourself), you might or might not consider buying it.

I directly went for the complete package like 8 years ago and never regretted it. Ok it is costly but the volume and export modules alone are worth every penny.

Very true .. but all software add functions to each new version (and my request was just an import while the vectorizer does many many more things). This is how maintenance fees are justified.
See Leica Register360..how many things they added .. (although not all of them work at the first time
Theoretically there could be paid micro modules (few functions and low cost) but I am aware of the commercial / administrative problems.
