Hi,
This was a project we carried out for Kone at Bank & Monument station (London Underground).
Back then, I think we used the HDS2500 and the HDS3000.
All the modelling was done in AutoCAD.
Steve Ramsay (of Leica) worked on this project with us...........when he had a real job

Re: Bank & Monument Station
Last image, left to right I see:
Northern Line ticket hall, escalators 6&7 down to escalators 8&9 at the top of the "cruciform" passages then down to escalators 10&11 then along the passageway in between the DLR platforms, up eslacators 12&13 then along the passage up to Escalators 14&15 which leads up to the district line ticket hall in Monument station....
Yes, I spent far too much time modelling this station too!

Re: Bank & Monument Station
Yep, I think I have a model of that somewhere as well.
Here is one we did a couple of years back on the DLR Line.

If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Are you sure you're not the station master ........we did a lot of work down there in the early 2000's.Oatfedgoat wrote:

It was good work, with great working hours, allowing time to see the sights

Re: Bank & Monument Station
I remember the job well, If I remember correctly I ended up phoning Tim Badley at 2am with a question, not sure he was impressed.
Also many years after this once I started at Leica I did the demonstration to London underground before they purchased there first scanner, What did they want scanning the exact same escalator chamber. There on the walls and floor were my original control.

I suspect the original point cloud never reached London Underground from the first time as we did not have capability to handle point clouds back then.stevenramsey wrote:I remember the job well, If I remember correctly I ended up phoning Tim Badley at 2am with a question, not sure he was impressed.

As it was marginally before my time at LU, I can only guess why the same chamber was scanned twice. It's likely an escalator replacement was needed and an up to date survey had to be produced. Tying this in with a scanner trial would make sense at the time.
As a footnote, the scanning of escalator chambers has been embraced by both the survey team and our Lifts and Escalator team.
Compared to even reflectorless shots from a total station, scanning provides far more possibilities to be modelled as even the odd few 10's of points that manage to reach the tunnel iron rings can be invaluable for drawing the actual chamber barrel.
Also, if the original model was for an escalator replacement, the machinery would not need to be modelled - Just the concrete plinths, walls, some structural steelwork, intrados of tunnel iron if visible and the floor plate opening above.

Re: Bank & Monument Station
Yep that was the reason we scanned and modelled various stations, including all the escalator machinery chambers, with Steve.
The contract was with Kone, who were replacing the escalators and needed to know the largest moduler size they could manufacture, so that they could transport them through the stations.
Kone had a set of both 2D & 3D drawings, providing them with all the information required to fit the new escalators.
It was also minging (filthy) under the escalators.
