Utility Substation - Lattice Structure Cloud + Model

Post by Scott.Warren »

Hey Folks,

Check out our utility model and cloud. We collected 20+ scans all around the site to be able to model each piece of steel (plates, angles, I's, and rivets), and utility equipment (wires, insulators, buildings, and equipment). This one took a while, where we modeled items using Cyclone's US Steel Parts tables. Always tricky where the steel rarely is straight/uniform in the real world. Tower structures stood around 100' tall.

Rough element numbers:
Steel Angles and I's 4,600+
Bolts 16,000+
Plates/flat steel 2,400+

HW-RTC360 med-res w/ images
SW-Reg360, Cyclone Core, Civil3D, Navisworks

Let me know your thoughts.

All the best,
Scott Warren

Very Nice Scott. Can you explain your workflow? What did
you use Navisworks for? Final delivery from COE from Cyclone? Or just to get material parts counts, etc

Everything was modeled in Cyclone Model from the RTC scans, we didn't have any record information, so we used the parts tables to check and verify each element/section. DWG was sectioned into sheets, with annotations, labels, tables, and legends. Recap and DWG was brought into Navisworks to make the animation/video. Navisworks turned out to be a good tool, because I was able to create 3 videos (model, cloud, cloud+Model) very quickly and intuitively.
