Scanner hire insurance
Hello. Until recently I have hired a scanner and arranged short term insurance with my existing insurers for the period of the hire to protect me should the kit be damaged etc... I have just heard that this will no longer be available to me unless I want to take out insurance for a longer period i.e. 6 months. The rate offered is very good but would rather pay per job at a slightly higher rate for a week at a time than have the fixed overhead. I am hoping that someone might have a few suggestions of where I might find this service in the UK? I wish that insurance could be included with my hire rate for the scanner it would make life so much easier!
Thank you

Hi Tom,
Depending on what type of scanner you need, we can offer hire including insurance and an operator from as little as £500 per day, dependent on length of hire.

Re: Scanner hire insurance
Hi guys,
Having exactly the same issue trying to get insurance on a hired scanner for a 1 day personal project to the value of £16,000.
Any success stories?
RSA sent me in circles I'm afraid.
Local broker has a minimum £150 policy charge.
Been sort of directed to:
https://www.jcbinsurance.com/short-term-hired-in-plant
and https://www.performance-insurance.tv/
Going to try both tomorrow and will post to tell you how it went.
Don't really want to pay more than £50 considering the hire of the scanner (Focus 3DS120), scanner accessories, spheres, tripod, laptop and Scene dongle comes to £195 for 24 hours!

Re: Scanner hire insurance
The problem for these companies isn't how much your paying initially for the hire, it's how much a replacement is if you break it or it's stolen.liamglazier wrote:Don't really want to pay more than £50 considering the hire of the scanner (Focus 3DS120), scanner accessories, spheres, tripod, laptop and Scene dongle comes to £195 for 24 hours!

Re: Scanner hire insurance
When I need to hire a different scanner now I use Optical survey (called sunbelt now) and have an Aplant account that atuomatically adds insurance for the hire period. Better to buy a scanner though!

Re: Scanner hire insurance
who is your aplant account with or is this included in the hire? I'm trying my hardest to get cover by tomorrow as I'm meant to be carrying out a survey for a charity over the weekend, but it looks like I'm going to have to postpone.

Re: Scanner hire insurance
Optical survey are part of Aplant so I had to set up an account with them, someone at Optical/Sunbelt should be able to help there. https://www.sunbeltrentals.co.uk. Hope that helps. Tom

Re: Scanner hire insurance
Off the top of my head I think the insurance is about 15% of the hire cost.
