Parking ramp and control

Post by johnmonell »

I'm scanning a 5 level parking ramp, measuring 300' x 600'. There are 4 stairwells connecting the levels. Is this sufficient to accurately register while avoiding linear drift, or should I also incorporate control on each level? Thanks for your replies.

There should be plenty of overlap on the ramps where cars move from level to level. If you setup control around the outside it should be fine.

We had the fortune of it being an open roofed carpark, so I set control around the perimeter and also up and over the top.

As you can see in the one image, the overlap where the ramps go from one level to the next provide sufficient overlap.

Thanks Jared. Planned on using the ramps, thinking 2 control points per level on diagonal corners will be sufficient. Other option was more control on the top level and on the sidewalk outside the ramp.

Yeah that should be sufficient too.

It also obviously depends on the environment at the time of survey.

The carpark I did was not particularly busy on the 1st 2 levels, and they last 2 were blocked off completely, giving me free reign.

But yeah, as you say, control in each corner should be enough.

Good luck! :D
