Is there a way to run the "unfurl" command - but along a spline (or series of straights?)
I have a fence line I need to elevate over a few hundred meters - but is "curved" so no simple elevation alignment - and ideally need to keep its accurate length.
Thanks
Tim

Contact - the guy at cloud compare. He updated or added Unfurl of a CONE for me some months ago. That guy is a gifted in ways us mere morals can only dream of.

Tim,
I think you might be able to do this using Rhino's "smash" and "unroll" commands. You can download a trial which works for 25 days or so.
I used the software to unroll/unfurl tank shells for deformation analysis before moving to alternate software.

Here is something I wrote this morning. Hopefully you have Autocad. I used Autocad so you can define the polyline (and cause I'm too lazy to write a intersection function in a different programming language), but you don't need the cloud in Autocad. It reads and writes to a unifed pts file (only). You need to give it a polyline for the alignment (not a 3d polyline), and it needs to be all straights (no curves).
Completely untested so have a good look at the results, I fed it some example data and it looked like it got it right. Give it a wurl and let me know if it works.

Phil - fantastic! Thank you very much for taking your time to do that!
I'll give it a test and let you know where it gets to!!
