The site
90K square meters (around 100mt by 90mt), industrial building empty and open space, with regular columns grid every 16mt approx. Internal heoght approx 6mt
The customer request
a drawing with a regular point grid 1mt by 1mt (9.000 points) with elevation, the request is to achieve Z axis accuracy of +/- 3 mm and XY accuracy of +/- 10mm
I have an idea about how to perform this activity, but I would like to have suggestions from the forum.
By the way, the customer is asking for a 3D laserscanner survey.

I have never used it myself but ClearEdge Edgewise Structure (http://www.clearedge3d.com/products/edgewise-structure/) can extract a grid of columns once you define one row. I am assuming that column specs are not changing.

You could use cyclone or cloudworx pluggin for Autocad and it's "points on grid" function.

Re: Best workflow for floor leveling of 90K sqm industrial building
I would first use Survey accurate targets and georefrenc my scans to them to be sure my scans are exactly level. I would use my Leica 3 second total station for this step.
I use a FARO X330 scanner and SCENE software. FARO app store offers survey, builder and inspector plugin apps for SCENE. The builder app has a grid point option that will do exactly what you need. It makes a very nice .pdf report as well as graphically shows the resulting elevations in the 3D pointcloud.

I would use a Leica P30/40. That will make your scan perfectly level from the outset. From there you can do points on a grid in Cyclone, or in the software of your choice.

Paul, we have a 1" robotic TS and we could use it to shoot targets.LPaulCook wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 5:23 pm I would first use Survey accurate targets and georefrenc my scans to them to be sure my scans are exactly level. I would use my Leica 3 second total station for this step.

But... if the measured targets are used for registration, the scan resolution set to acquire them should be very high, unless you want to lose the accuracy achieved by the total station. Let's say no more then 1 point every 1 mm.
Considering the size of the space (100m x 90m), to have targets close enough to the scanner, we should put around 90 targets on columns.
All this assumed you think the targets registration is the best workflow.
My guess was that we could maybe get better results using plane to plane registration using Scantra, shooting around 20 points on floor with TS (for XY accurated position) and leveling them with a digital level and a levelling rod.
We can use special targets put on floor and centered on each point, to have their position in the pointcloud in order to double check the pointcloud height.
What you guys think about this workflow?
Is there any other way that can guarantee 3 mm accuracy on Z axis?

Jeff, as far as I know, P30/P40 has an angular accuracy of 8"
I doubt you can guarantee 3 mm vertical accuracy using only the laserscanner.
