Exporting an rcp file from Scene 6.2.3.9

Post by albersonb »

Anyone experienced issues exporting a project as an rcp from Scene? I am working to export a small 4 scan project. The rcp file created is only 4KB and returns an error when imported into Revit. Thanks in advance.

It is considerably quicker, and far less crash prone to just import the project (.lsproj) into Recap and then index them.

I just tried this and could not get it to work. How can you open LSPROJ in Recap?

Amanda,

I usually export as e57, then import into Recap and decimate to 5 mm, this drastically reduces the Recap file size.

An RCP file is a Re-Cap Project file - the RCS files hold the scan data.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

When you export an RCP project from Scene, It creates a folders estructure with several files. Point Clouds (RCS) are in the folder named: "Nameofyourproject Support". You can import this file directly in Revit.

I agree with ChrisK. I have found that to be the best route from SCENE to ReCap.

Chris K. Thanks for the information. I currently work in accident reconstruction and only export scans as a pts for simulation in Reality. So, an upload to Revit is new territory to me. Is this your standard work flow regardless of the size of the project? Also, are the files indexed when you upload? I sure wish that this workflow was explained elsewhere. I usually watch Youtube videos and I am yet to stumble on one that walks you through this. Thanks again for your help!!! Just a rookie trying to figure it all out. ;)

Amanda, I have learned so much from this forum. I am glad to help another newbie here!

The image below shows how to select the top-most level of what you would like to export to Recap. By selecting 'Export Scans - Ordered' it will keep the registration you have created in SCENE.

Decimation is definitely a go-to method for me when I have to put projects into Recap. I use 5mm for room to building size projects, you could use smaller or bigger value for decimation, down to 1 or 2 mm I believe, if your project is a smaller size and that detail is needed. I suppose it all depends on what you're going after.

Here's a decent video that shows the recap import and where the decimation settings are:

Chris K, do you edit the scans in scene or in Revit? For example, noise from cars or people moving through a scan?
