You beat me to it Jed, Lots of meshing software has issues with large coordinate systems

Be nice to get a list of the software that does handle large coordinate systems in 3D.
Ones I know of so far:
None...

- CloudCompare. But just by being so "smart" to work with a temporary shift/scale after import and before exportMatt Young wrote:Be nice to get a list of the software that does handle large coordinate systems in 3D.

I have been working with Cloud compare only this week and had to deal with exactly this issue. It's clever and skirts around the issue in the way one would expect. But it's still not a piece of software that allows you to work directly in one large coordinate system.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Hi everyone,
Well, 3dreshaper does handle large coordinates
Actually, this is part of our "definition of done": every 3D algorithm we integrate has to pass tests in large coordinates. And, I can tell you that sometimes, it's quite tricky to do it right!

Thanks for that Jed.
That has fixed all my issues, would never of thought of that!

Ok, So Microstation and 3D-Reshaper do and of course Cyclone.

Re: Faro Scene Meshing Issues - Recap/Memento & Meshlab
I have a sculptor client wishing to make a 3D printed scale model of his 24' tall art piece. The scanning I did went well enough (see photo) but now the point cloud needs to be meshed and made 'watertight'. Autodesk 'Remake' (formerly Memento) has a low price ($30) monthly fee as well as other price options. Will 'Remake' import a .rcp file (from Scene) directly? Has anyone had favorable results? It would be nice to be able to clean up the 'holes' in 'Remake' and export as a 3D print file.gouth685 wrote: Did you register the scans in scene and then skip registration in Recap?
...
Also just a general question, does Recap 360 handle landscapes or structures well for meshing? Or is it only ideally used for closed objects etc.
P.S. 1/4/17
Autodesk was extremely helpful with this project, converting the .rcp file from Scene to a mesh in ReMake (cloud service). I've never had better service from anyone (accolades to Tatjana Dzambazova!).

Hi all.
Since this discussion started some time ago and new software features are available now:
You might want to try SCENE´s new meshing functionality. Should cope with the coordinates. And would be able to create watertight meshes.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler
