Export image from Scene
Hi y'all,
1. Is there a way to export high resolution images (jpeg or other format) from the 3D view of Scene (and I'm not talking about a screen capture from Windows 7 here) ?
2. Let say you have 3 scans align. Is there a way to display a 3D view of the scans from the vantage point of one of the scanner position ?
Thanks.
Have a good one.
Antoine

Re: Export image from Scene
You can export a panoramic image from the viewpoint of the Scanner...
Is that what you want to do?
I have combined this with QuickTime VR for a fairly good effect.

Re: Export image from Scene
Thanks David. What I'm looking for is exporting a image of the point cloud for the scanner's viewpoint (not really the panoramic photography).
Thanks Olivier, exactly what I was looking for. I have to say that a basic image export functionality in Faro Scene would be nice.

Re: Export image from Scene
Hi Antoine.
The most basic way would be to right-click on a scan in the left hand structure view and pick "Export Image" from the "Import/Export" section. This will give you a panoramic JPG of the complete scan in the resolution the scan was taken in. That is the best quality you could get.
If the scan is not colorized, you will get the intensity image. If it is colorized, you will get the color result.
In case you want to have images of all scans of your workspace, you may also use "Export Image" feature within the "Preprocess Scans" batch processor.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: Export image from Scene
Thanks Oliver,
That is a way, but I'm really looking for is a way to export a nice, high resolution, 3D view of the point cloud.
I found you the 3D Clear View extremely interesting and nice, and I like to have a way to export this type of view, for report, presentation, etc.
Now the screen capture is always an option, but the resolution (72ppi) is not here when you want to print it.
Have a good one.

Re: Export image from Scene
Antoine.
If you have adobe Acrobat you could try printing the view you require from the 3d viewport to Acrobat printer as a pdf. Printing to Acrobat allows you lots of control over the size and resolution of your print. Try combining large print output size (A2, A1 etc) with various point size settings in the Scene Window/Visibility Setting.
You will find that selecting larger point size in the Scene 3d view window will affect pdf image quality. Right click over the 3d view and open "Visibility Settings" - switch of Gap Filling, click the Scan Point tab, and experiment with manual point size settings between say 1.0 and 1.6mm. This will likely make the 3d Computer screen view appear blotchy or over pixelated , even in Clear View, but don't be fooled - try printing with an Acrobat Image output size of A2 or A1.
Because the A1 image will have pixel resolution much larger than your screen can reproduce, the rendered Acrobat Image output file will be much higher quality than what you are seeing on your computers display.
To set up Acrobat prints in Scene - after installing Acrobat (the full version, not the viewer), open a project in Scene. File/Print Setup/Choose Acrobat PDF in the "Printer Name" dialog box/Select properties/, and chose a big print size like A2 or A1, and also try the High Quality Print option in Default settings dialog. You will then be set up to print large & high resolution images from your Scene 3d view window. There are plenty of setting to play with on both Scene Visibility Settings window, and in Acrobat printer options.
Cheers
Paul

Re: Export image from Scene
I'm having little success following Paul's advice, and wondered whether anybody else has experienced similar problems.
Regardless of point size or document size, the result is always a 300kb pdf which contains a raster image with the same pixel count as my monitor. This raster image is always located at the lower left quarter of a black image the full width of the page. Example attached using Scan Point Size 1.2.
I'm using SCENE LT 5.3.2.38168 and a print driver from Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.
Would be really grateful of any assistance.

Re: Export image from Scene
Yep, printing rasterized pdfs can get really large sometimes, but they can look amazing. What Oliver suggested about taking screen shots from high resolution monitor is working fine for us Additionally you can use Scene's video app to render an 8k .png image, but you better have a ton of scan density! You can read about it and see some images here: http://www.laserscanningforum.com/forum ... =44&t=6465
Remarkably I still have the full resolution images up here: http://sdrv.ms/1e01BzB
