Faro Scene Adding New Scans to Existing Project

Post by Reecephil »

I was wondering if there is a way to add new scans to an existing project where that pointcloud has already started being used for design work. Meaning is there a way to add the scans in, register them in to the project with the old ones however leave the old pointcloud exactly as it is and with the same origin point etc most importantly. So when it comes to using the new pointcloud in plant 3D, nothing needs to be moved at all in order to make things fit as they did before. Basically the tie-in to the existing site has now changed so we need to expand the area of the scan.

Hopefully my question makes sense. I am using Faro Scene 2021.

You can create a new cluster. Add one of the older scans to this new cluster and make it the reference scan. Place your new scans in this cluster and run the registration operation on that cluster only.

So do you mean move an old scan into a new cluster with all the new scans? Register just the new cluster to the moved scan and that should just position the new scans relative to all the old ones?

I attempted to do this before with using Scans_all as a reference cluster, however the position changed anyway. Scans_All is the original scans and the Clusters starting 2_... are scans from a second visit.

Registration Tree being:
- Scans

- 2_Cluster-1
- 2_Cluster-2
- 2_Cluster-3
- 2_Cluster-4
- Scans_All

- 3_Scans (New Scans)
- Cluster_1
- Cluster_2
- (Scan from "Scans_All"), Set as Reference scan

Does this workflow make sense?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, move one registered scan. Screenshots to illustrate.
