Salute to everyone,
I have a big issue that I tried to fix in many ways but I just can`t find a proper solution.
The steps i`m using for creating the Mesh
- open project
- view scan point cloud
- selected a specific area by using clipping box
- right click on the clipping box - create mesh
settings used:
- Non-Watertight: 33 (default)
- Generate Vertex Colors
- Maximum number of triangles: maximum
- Geometry
In the creation process, it crashes most of the times. I tried using 2 workstations and 2 notebooks all different specs.
Any input?
Thank you,
Ronald

Re: Mesh creation
Hello,
No, I did not think of that because I don`t know where I can find those type of files. Can you help me out on this?
I also tried to gather as much information as I could about the system specifications I was running the mesh creation on.
Also, if I would know exactly how this tools works maybe I could have a better input on how and why it crashes.
Thank you,
Ronald

Re: Mesh creation
I have not specific experience with mesh creation in Scene, but in general to set "maximum" as a parameter during mesh creation from pointcloud could cause troubles.
As a first test I would try to reduce the number of triangles..

Re: Mesh creation
For now I have found a workaround the issue.
Scene sometimes, even if you have the clippingbox selected, tries to mesh all the data (even the invisible data). Given this, I had to do the extra step to delete what is outside the clippingbox, save and create mesh after. This way it works without any issues.

Re: Mesh creation
Hi, probably the problem is
I recommend you to generate the Project Point Cloud and use it to setup the clipping box and make the MESHES.
Roberto
I have generated a lot of MESHES, the difference in the workflow is that I used Project Point Cloud instead of Scan Point Cloud.- view scan point cloud

That was the next thing that I wanted to test. Does it make better quality meshes (and can make large scale meshes)? I think also the workflow is a bit faster that way too.
What settings do you usually use to create meshes through the Project Point Cloud?
Thank you,
Ronald

Re: Mesh creation
Ronald, I use the same setup as you except that with the Project Point Cloud. Bigger the clipping box, the worst the mesh it generates. Try to balance it with your clients needs.
You can generate more than one Meshes to represent parts of the object. If you do not move the mesh inside the Scene, when you export they will retain its coordinate system and allow each mesh to be loaded in the correct position.
Bellow an article about a little project the client used a mesh, sorry but it is in Portuguese.

Thank you for your input. I am creating quality meshes now through the Project Point Cloud!
This is 100% the way to go for mesh creation inside Scene.
Thank you,
Ronald
