FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Hi everyone!
As on daily basis I was using two machines:
Workstation PC for high-end work;
Macbook Pro 2014 for registering on-site with bootcamp.
Since my laptop was also used for creating BIM models, there was a need to switch. Macbook Pro 14 /w M1 Max CPU it is then.
I installed Parallels since bootcamp is no longer supported. I also installed SCENE 2019 BUT after connecting Sentinel Dongle with SCENE license on it, SCENE cannot find my USB thumb drive/w License. I tried reinstalling HASP driver but it gave me not success. Is there anyone who was able to make it work?
Best regards,
Karol

Re: FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Just guessing..
Bootcamp is booting from scratch a windows OS, but this is not possible in your case because M1 is not natively supported.
Parallels emulates a windows compatible hardware, and its peripherals, creating a sort of layer between the hardware you have and the OS. Probably the culprit here is to have the hasp driver supported in parallels.
Did you check if the dongle is supported or if there are workarounds and tricks to use it?

Re: FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Hi Massimo,
That's exactly the issue and I can't find a workaround for that. I am guessing that the Mac would handle SCENE perfect, but this license-reading software is the problem.
Best regards,
Karol

Re: FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Hi Everyone,
Update:
According to that page: https://docs.sentinel.thalesgroup.c...otes/130-Supported_Platforms_for_Sentinel.htm
Which I guess is the owner right now of Sentinel hardware, Parallels 17 for Mac should work with those dongles. What am I missing then?
Best,
Karol

When you go to the following URL in your web browser is the dongle listed as detected?
http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html

As far as I saw, no.jedfrechette wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 12:07 am When you go to the following URL in your web browser is the dongle listed as detected?

I spoke with FARO technician, but they were not able to help. I am waiting for response from Thales now.
Sentinel Driver is basically not installed, therefore USB drive is with " " symbol in Hardware manager (both Windows 10 and 11).

Re: FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Hi Everyone,
I got answer from polish representant of Thales saying that:
"Sentinel HL keys in HASP configuration do not have support on Windows ARM platform(so also in this case).
Sentinel HL keys in Driverless configuration work fine on the same environment. The situation is similar with Sentinel SL Admin-Mode and User-Mode software licenses.
In your case, we are probably dealing with a key in HASP configuration - to confirm this, please connect it to the computer where the key is detected. Then go to http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html in your web browser (requires driver installation). The Configuration column will provide information about the type of configuration for the key.
Below is an example of two keys (see attachment Girls and Guys)
If the key is in the HASP configuration, I would ask you to contact the manufacturer of the secure software to update the key configuration or replace the key with another one."
So aparently it could work but FARO would need to replace my key... is it even possible?
Best regards,
Karol

Re: FARO SCENE on Apple M1 via Parallels
Hi!
I have the same issue. Any solutions yet?
I also tried a workaround from this thread, https://forum.parallels.com/threads/has ... 838/page-2
But it did not work for me.
I will write to FARO also.
